Frisco, I agree that the wear should be on the pad, but it is inevidable (prob spelled wrong) that the rotor will eventually wear.

That supprises me about the stainless, because stainless will burn a drill bit, or cutting blade lots faster, than mild steel, but experience is experience, and I am not one to argue with experience.

ken, I get that they are harder to wear out, but to say that they will never wear is false advertising. not kidding, not sorta.

Thumbs up

Never said they'd never wear...just have'nt ever had to replace a rotor OR drum, unless the brake pads/shoes (on someone elses bike) had gone down to metal on metal.

No insult intended..I know what you meant...and just figured you knew that I knew, that you knew...thus the thing in my post...no "sorta" there, buddy !!

Hi Hot

You are absolutely right that the rotor will inevitably wear, and that's what I stated..
"".........The rotor wears away eventually but it's.........""

I read once why the Ductile Iron and Mild Steel is good material for rotors but I'm not interested in looking it up again cuz I know what works for me..
For now, heck, I'll accept Milindhs explain..

Ken, I know what you, i, you, i you know or meant. or something like that. No insult taken, thick skin buddy, ribbin is ribbin.

Frisco, your correct, most cases of premature wear on rotors is pads bieng wore down too far, just was curious the reasoning, but I am not going to argue with years of experience, may be it has to do with heat dissapation, or maybe I am just blowing smoke out my sssss

I read in an H-D sourced tech article (not a factory bulletin) that the factory is equipping all of the 08 models with HH pads as standard equpiment. This is a change from the semi-metallic/ organic that has been the factory standard for years.
I do not know if the factory is still using Dunlopad brand (by Dunlop tire Co.) brake pads or perhaps a source suggested by the new caliper manufacturer: Brembo.
Apparently the 08 rotors are also made of a harder material. I would ass-ume that this change is also warranted by the entirely new braking design sourced from Brembo.

I am saying this because if folks start using HH pads on pre-08 models they will definately get better braking at a cost of greatly accelerated rotor wear. You don't get something for nothing. Technologically speaking, pre '08 models are definately not Brembo compatible.
