Default Brake tools...

Hi all. I have an '02 Fat Boy. I want to replace the rear brake pads. I purchased a set of ETorx sockets to remove the pins holding the pads. I have a size 8 and a size 10 in the set of sockets but neither fit. Anyone know what tool is required to remove the pad pins?

LFlats:
Welcome aboard here...I don't know that the caliper-pins on my '98 softail are the same size as on your bike...but a size T-10 torx is like WAY small. So I went out and checked mine and they take a T-45. Are we even "on the same page" here...as far as the "pins" we're taking about ??

Thanks Evo, but we seem to be talking about something different. My rear calipers have four fasteners. The two smaller ones just pass throught the pads from the outboard side and screw into the inboard side of the calipers. Unscrew the pins, press back the pistons, slide in new pads and replace the pins. Neither of my ETorx 8 or 10 fit the pins. Perhaps they require something else? The other two "bolts" are larger, but I don't know about t-45!

I used a 1/4" drive 7mm Craftsman socket to get mine off my 2000 FXR4 (same brakes as your '02 Fatboy). The fit was a hair loose but worked OK. If I were you I'd all a local dealer's service dept and ask them what the correct tool is. They're usually happy to do that kind of goodwill service info stuff.

Good Luck

Thumbs up

OK...I just "turned the page". Mine IS set-up different than yours W/O those 2 little pins..and I was picturing torx head VS socket anyhow.

Maybe coming out of L. field with this now,too..but,when I was recamming my bike I mistook the lifter-block bolts as torx..bought a set of torx "sockets"..and,later learned that they just called for a 1/4 inch 12pt. socket...if that helps any here,

Yeah, I think EvoKenEvo is on the right track here. You might even try a 6mm twelve point socket. It's close to 1/4".

Thanks milindh. I think you have the solution. I don't thinks etorx is right and the 12pt 6mm solution sounds like the way to go.

Right on Evo...I bet you are right and it's a 12pt rather than an etorx. Sure looks like an etorx. \\

Am I crazy or is there just too many fasteners out there? What happened to the KISS method?
