Default Road King rear Brakes

I have an '05 Road King. I cant seem to apply the rear brakes without the rear wheel locking and sliding. I'm not talking about your regular stop. I'm referring to a slightly heavier braking due to a moron cager pulling out in front of me. Rear wheel seems to almost instantly lock up. I never had this problem with my Dyna. Any one else with this problem? Anyway to correct this? Thanks. Botz

Botz, I just did a bunch of testing with my 03RK, I wanted to put oversize rotors on the front, but determined the stock size has more stopping power than I can handle, I can lock up the front wheel, increase pressure enough and it will skid a foot or two if your not careful, I went ahead and put the HD floating rotors on the rear while I was replacing the brakes and have had no problems. I did lower my brake control lever as low as possible without it hitting the footboards, I used STOCK HD brakes. Did you put braided or steel brake lines on, they don't flex as much as stock lines and may be giving you more power to the rear. Also, I'm a rider coach, I'll have a student swear he can't do an emergency stop without locking up his rear brake, by the end of day two, they've increased their front brake squeze and decreased their rear brake pressure, its just getting used to the bike they're on?

From the water...

I think I figured out the deal here. First off thanks for the info! After riding a '91 Dyna for the past 15 years I developed a habit of using only the highway pegs when riding. I use the heel of my foot for rear braking. I do not have forward controls, I use the regular brake setup on the bike. Now with the Road King my whole foot is coming down on the brakes. Thus more pressure. I'm adjusted now and no more rear wheel lockup. Did you put floating rotors up front too? Was wondering if it helped eliminate that wonderful squealing from the brakes.

G'day
I've a '98 roadking and the rear wheel locks unless I'm very light on the brake. Mind you, it has a cast iron disk which grabs like a miser after a penny. I'm thinking of changing it out for a stainless steel disk. Any comments appreciated.
