Default Softial Dual Disk ?

Can you replace the lower legs of a FXST with the lower legs for the touring bike to run dual disks? Keeping the triple trees and fork tubes from the FXST. I know you would have to use the tire assy. of the touring bikes. Thanks
Richard

Just to be sure I went to the 06 Custom Chrome catalog...

On page 15.41 it shows that the fork tubes in the touring models, and the FX, Softails etc., 1984 to present and all FL Softail models 1986 to present are the same except for the length...
Since the tubes are all the same, other than length, any of those years lower legs are inter-changeable...
Go get some of the catalogs that are available, Custom Chrome, Jireh Cycles, P&J, etc. etc., then you will be able to look up info, and be much more confident in that info, cuz you're the one finding it...
And, you can use any tire assembly you choose, just space it correctly... Also be prepared to possibly have to change Front Master Cylinder size... You see, going to dual disk requires more fluid to be moved, for example, if you are now a 9/16" front master cylinder you may need to go to an 11/16 or even 3/4" cylinder...
BUT--- try yours first, you may like the extra pressure you'll have with a smaller cylinder, BUT the actual pull on the brake handle will be longer... With a larger cylinder you'll have less pressure but the handle will move/pull much less... I personally like the smaller cylinder...
I'll explain more if you want...

Default Leg swap

It's true that the FL lower legs will accept 41mm fork tubes for the FX models, but there are other differences you need to consider.First, the FL lower legs are partially covered by the "cow bells" while the Softail legs have a groove machined in for the rubber boot that covers the seal area,no way to install said boot on FL legs (without machine work)Second, the fender mounting bosses are completely different,so this will require at least some fabrication on your part.Third, since the distance between the lowers is different, some form of rotor/caliper spacing will be required. An alternative would be to use Screaming Eagle Deuce lower legs & related components as this model came with dual disc from the factory.Hope this helps.
