yup,

I went back and re-read this thread. It almost seems that folks that are offended by the "show boats" or the high dollar bikes may be jelous, a little? I have been to a lot of events, look at the fancy bikes and cant even imagine the amount of time and money invested in them. then I wander past an older bike that has been worked but doesn't have the high dollar paint job. and can appreciate the time and energy that goes into both. I have been with my wife for over 20 years now, and when I bought my fancy shiney new high dollar BMC it was out of pure want for something new, trouble free riding and a bit of show off all in one and not for a lack of anything or trying to make up for deficiencies. I had just done a get out of debt program that lasted 7 years of having 2 jobs to git er done, and figured this was my reward.... by going directly back into debt again! but at least now I can afford it, after literally breaking my back on the job and fighting back to the point that my success allowed me to afford this luxury.

I say let the show boats have thier fun. I am glad to see people enjoying thier high levels of success. If you haven't got the time or money to have one of these, If you really really want something, you will find a way to achieve your goal.

ok i'm done

I think you are partially correct, some people are jealous of guys that can just go out and buy a pre-made "custom" bike. But...a couple of thing come to mind for me. The first is that not everyone has the time or space or tools to build something like you are talking about. The other thing is that given the chance, if those people say.. hit the lottery... what do you think they might spend some money on? I would bet that they would run right out and pick up one of these high dollar machines.
I also believe that the biggest problem that the bikers have with those guys(the fancy bike owners) is that they don't ride these bikes. You can see that by just looking on Ebay or Craigslist, they are both filled with low milage, big money bikes that were bought because they look cool but are not that comfortable to ride. The real "riders" resent those guys. Just my opinion.

Hey guys...different strokes for different folks...and to each their own.
If some guys just want a store bought high-dollar,bar-hopper so be it...no skin off my butt...right !?!

Just last summer I was just putting along on my crumby (?) old FLSTS (not for everyone) when a guy on one of those "bad-ass-bikes" made it a point to pull along side at a stop light just to say that he had an FLSTS kind of like mine only in white (mines black) and that he preferred it to what he was riding that day...recently bought as a 2'nd Bike (nice if you can) for the hell of it !!!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....................can't always tell the book by the cover

Just as I always suspected.... riding a "chopper" style bike is a lifestyle or a commitment. Chopper style bike or long bikes in general aren't just for anyone.

It seems I was'nt clear,to some here as to my "non-partisan-position" in this case.

Hey guys,

I agree with "Unclepsycho" , why the issue and name calling at poeple with the money to spend on big dollar shiny bikes. Why do you seem to value the time and effort it takes to build a bike more then the bike , and then almost prefer the bikes that have been built "lovingly" . I like bikes, i dont care whether it took some old guy 8 years to carve the bike out of a block of metal or whether it rolled off the platform at HD or BigDog....all i care about is how the bike looks and performs, regardless of how it was "created".

Judge the bikes aside from the riders and there financial status or lifestyle.

As far as im concerned anyone that has the good sense to be on a bike is good enough, and if you can afford big dollar bikes....excellent, if you cant then thats no issue because you can afford some type of cheaper bike. No hate in this formula....

Now, normally the person experessing the type of opinion in this post is not in a position to buy big dollar bikes...but for a change im one person that can and does. The money however is irellevent, if i could buy the same bikes cheaper...then i would.

sorry if it sounds like a rant, i assure you its not. I just expected this type of conversation in the UK where there is a hate culture and people dont like to see you get on in life and do well....i always thought that the US was the "land of the free" and financial success was valued and admired...perhaps humans are just humans regardless of the side of the pond they come from.

Sam

I agree with Unclepsycho and Rocker. Years ago I used to down people who spent big bucks on overly lifted 4X4's, BMW's and Expensive Bikes they don't ride but then I grew out of that and figured hey if they can afford it then it is not my business. Besides I might be able to get it cheap with very few miles when they get tired of it!

Moving forward with our feet dragg'n......... ain't that the truth!
I started out on a Honda 350 cb with no foot pegs...at all. Rode with my feet on the motor, for a while. then on to a worn out(big time) 72' sportster. And the rest is history.
Next bike was a 49' Pan....and 12 Harley's afterward.... What a great ride its been.
7 motorcycle accidents, 21 years in motorcycle rights movement, built 4 bikes from the ground up...and the list goes on........ Totally love this lifestyle.
