Default Why Choppers In A Harley Magazine?

I don't get it why is it when I pick up a Harley magazine I still see so many choppers in them? AIM doesn't do many any more, and thats the way I like it.

Its cool for someone to build his own sled but I don't want to build or own a chopper.

I like red heads; blonds; brunettes; even seen some pretty sharp blue haired; tall; short, in between, love them all, give me a little variety, even though I only get to look.

I think it is also very funny that all of these chopper companies are now selling "bobbers". Since this also seems to be a trend. Most of these are nothing more than one of their high backbone frames with a long fork, no front fender and a short back fender. Whaaa laa a "bobber" is born. A good example of what I'm talking about is the Von Dutch "bobber" that was in American Iron a little while back. Pathetic. I got the book "Art of the Bobber" and it is chocked full of these pseudo bobbers. Thses companies are probably overloaded with their chopper frames and need to call them what ever the "in" thing is just to get rid of them.

Interesting question and great replies..

The answer is probably older than you Bargain..

The history of HD's being chopped and bobbed is almost as long as the brand itself..
Before all the aftermarket frame and motor and fender and front-end and tank and wheel etc. etc. etc. manufactureres-- all you had was HARLEYS being made into choppers and bobbers..

In fact, I prefer a magazine that features fewer stock or slightly modified HD's cuz they are just boring.. Give me a guys creation even if I wouldn't be caught riding it around the block at least he did it and it has some sweat based soul.. Yeah baby..!

Relating to your question we won't even go into all the other makes of sickles that have been chopped and bobbed and re-worked..

It's the modified and custom built bikes making mee interested too, The mag has given me many new ideas, thoughts and so many "why haven't I thought of doing it that way, that were very nice!" so I see it as countless almost. Every modified Harley is like road ridden piece of art showing the owners personality and how they think and what ideas they live after, so stock bikes are boring me to hell actually.

Choppers are still so cool.
But, in my mind's definition a chopper can't be bought new.
It's something only a mechanic and pile of used questionable parts can accomplish correctly. No fresh paint required. More specifically No paint is required. OK primer black from a can with runs so everybody knows you were drinking when you finally sprayed it on with one nice think coat.
3 have full cans from 3 different manufactures.
FYI... It wasn't mine but I did help paint it.
Ahhhhh. Memories. And this time I think I may actually have been there.
