Immediate Future of Harley Chopper Motorcycle
Harley ChopperDiscuss Immediate Future of Harley Chopper Motorcycle in the Motorcycles forums; Uncle Like the Bike, metric or not.
Here is the kind of Chopper I like and would like to see in AIM.

Whats funny is I am building it the way I want it.... then I will give it to my old buddy Crazy Larry. Odds are he will want it changed up and I get to build it again..... Lucky me!!!!
I'll get a picture of me doing a wheelie or a burn out or both...before I hand over the keys....

I`m a new guy here, but I ride a real chopped Harley. I don`t see as many as there were years ago, but they are still out there.
As long as there are guys who want to showcase their individuality, there will be choppers.

Ok, at least I got a decent pic up.
I thought I`d add some of the work I`ve done to this bike.
It all started with a set of cherry 1951 EL cases I happened on a long time ago. I decided to build a bike around them.
Changed the case bushings, added a set of S&S 4 1/2" flywheels with new shafts and a new set of rods using the three hole crankshaft pin. An Andrews "B" cam, Manley stainless steel valves and silicon brass guides, reverse wound valve springs set up for the cam. New cylinders and heads from an outfit called GME. Made in Taiwan, but are absolutely excellent castings. All new shafts and bushings with some nos gears I found. I bought a brand new 12 volt generator for the obvious reasons. I dual plugged the heads, used "Dyna" coils and fire them with a Mallory Unilite distributer. The voltage regulator is solid state and is hidden behind the chrome generator cover. I used a late model aluminum oil pump, but could never get the damm thing not to leak a tiny bit. I just went back to the early steel pump and it hasn`t leaked a drop since.
The frame is an early swingarm with two inches cut out of the rear downtubes.
(gives it a very low seating position) I used later model Superglide shocks on the early round swingarm. Back in the day when I first built this bike, a half inch rake was just something one did then. I started with a 12 over Durfee girder with a spool wheel. I changed that to the 77 Super Glide dual disc front end that is on it now with six over tubes. I had to use the S pipe exhaust pipes because of ground clearance. I used a Jerry Branch dual throat Solex/Mikuni carb until this weekend. I`m putting on an S&S super E because I really don`t need a big carb for street racing anymore. ( the big Evos just blow me away)
I used a rear disc brake set up put together by what was then a very young company called "Performance Machine". They had a kit that gutted the early star hub wheel. The kit had all the spacers, rotor, sprocket etc needed to convert it over.
( I am awaiting UPS to deliver a brand new Performance Machine four piston caliper and bracket I ordered yesterday) And of course...a Bill Gardner master cylinder to apply that rear brake!
This bike has been made over several times in the 34 years I`ve owned and ridden it. The last makeover changed from a high mounted flat bottomed sportster tank to the 3 1/2 gallon fatbobs on it now. I guess it will never stop changing as long as newer and better equipment becomes available.
21 inch front wheel is a helluva lot better than some of the 16 inch spool wheels I ran back in the day.
Yeah...I`m an old guy....but I still kick the old Hog into life and ride as much as I can.

This is my Granddaughter Sky, age 7. Can't walk, talk, or feed herself but look at that smile. Anyone care to complain about their lot in life? Not me!
Here is the bike in its last configuration before I added the fatbobs. I`m trying this photobucket thing..So here goes!
Well, I need to work on my skills a little more I guess.

Looks like some really good paint work on that tank!

A young woman (then) in California air brushed and painted that tank for me back in the seventies. It`s a little the worse for wear, with a few chips on it, but I keep it on a stand to remind myself of the bike it used to be. She did the detail down to eyelashes and fingernails. I set it up frisco style, moved the filler cap up and flatbottomed it. The tank would hold almost three gallons.
