Default What Happened To Daytona?

So what happened to the amazing races that used to be hel in Daytona on the beach.

When did they go from being very cool and popular racing into a world class race that very few people actually watch while in Daytona for Bike Week?

When the race was on the beach the front stretch was on A1A, when A1A was just a drive in the country.
If you look at the old movies, and now drive on A1A you are shocked how much it has changed.
Someone figured out that if they moved it to private land, they could put up fences and charge admission.
Guess that explains it as good as I can.
Yea, I’m with you would have loved to seen the old races, not near as commercial.
That is why I love going up to the ECTA Land speed races in Maxton NC.
Just of guys who want to go fast, not a lot of glitz.

Default Daytona

The last race on the beach was in 1960. Just a little before my time.

My first bikeweek was in 1974. Believe me it has changed. Still fun.
