RIVAS IN SECOND CONSECUTIVE FINAL ROUND AT ENGLISHTOWN
MOVES INTO FOURTH POSITION IN CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS
ENGLISHTOWN, N.J., June 22, 2008 - Chris Rivas rode his G2 Motorsports/Drag
Specialties/S&S Cycle V-Twin Pro Stock Motorcycle to a final round loss due to a red light foul at the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals here at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Because Rivas advanced to the final round, he moved up to fourth place in the National Hot Rod Association Countdown to the Championship Pro Stock Motorcycle standings.
After a first round victory with a 6.979 e.t. at 190.19-mph over Ryan Schnitz (7.364 e.t. at 176.37- mph), second round victory with a 6.991 e.t. at 188.65-mph over Eddie Krawiec (7.030 e.t. at 188.33-mph) and semi-final round victory with a 7.007 e.t. at 190.40-mph over Andrew Hines (7.116 at 184.80-mph), Rivas lost to Chip Ellis in the final round of eliminations.
"I knew I had to do something as a driver because Chip Ellis's Suzuki is the 'baddest' hot rod on Sunday. I had to try to beat him on the light. I hate to lose because of a red light, but still I'm ecstatic," said the 41-year-old Fresno, Calif. native. "I kept telling the team not to change anything after Chicago (Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals June 6-8) and it worked for us all weekend, except for the last run.
All the hard work of the guys at the G2 Motorsports shop paid off though and the motorcycle was consistent all weekend. I could not have lost to a better person than Chip."
Chip Ellis has been a friend and mentor of Rivas ever since they met in 2005 at G2 Motorsports.
Crew Chief George Smith echoed Rivas's sentiments. "It's disappointing that we lost, but overall we won. We had the pole for qualifying, we won the Full Throttle Pit Crew Challenge award and we gained points in all areas. I'm happy that Chip won."
The team won the Full Throttle NHRA Pit Crew Challenge for this event, an award given to the team with the best cumulative points which are based on the lowest average qualifying elapsed time, least variance in qualifying elapsed times and the number one qualifier. By winning the Pit Crew Challenge at Englishtown, the team moves up to fourth position in the Pit Crew Challenge Championship standings.
The next event on the 2008 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle tour is the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at the Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio which marks the official halfway point of the 2008 NHRA season.
NHRA Countdown to the Championship Point Standings: 4th Chris Rivas with 407 points; 149 points behind the leader Full Throttle NHRA Pit Crew Championship Point Standings: 4th Chris Rivas/George Smith/Ken Johnson with 196 points Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle: 9th Chris Rivas with 1265 points
