My Grandparents escaped the land of peroshki and vodka many years ago so that I might ask why, with an intermediate of .250 on a Super E I only have the idle adjustment screw turned out 1 revolution from stop. The manual suggests anything less than a turn and a fourth out needs a smaller jet. My goodness how small do we need to go? I do like the way it runs however.

Holy Cow Tommy

That's the smallest Inter they make,,, are you high or something,,, ok ok ok, let me re-phrase,,, what is your altitude..?

When I lived at 4,000 ft. I used a .28 in the 93" shovel..

The more you screw IN an S&S Idle Mix screw the more you lean the Idle Mix..

What they are saying is if you must screw the screw IN to Less than 1 1/4 turn out you are attempting to Lean it out and that installing the next size smaller jet will correct that..

But you're as small as it gets, er, the Jet is that is..

Hey, if it's running good,, cool Daddio..

And happy I am you're here to ask..

My physical and mental deficiencies aside, hi AND low, if not fully warm, say after a 1/2 hour cool down a fair bit of enrichment is needed to restart and idle and that's on a 70 degree day. I think we're about 1500' feet here, so not that high, maaaan.
Now I'm thinkin as I'm posting I'll turn the screw out as far as it can stand instead of in the middle-ish and see what that does for a cool idle. OR, does that just make for a way too rich condition at idle?
I've always wanted to be rich, eh FR

Hi Tommy

This could be another example of how the instructions for stuff such as this might best be viewed as a kinda-sorta "starting" point cuz very often Real-World Hands-On is sumpin else again..

If it were my sickle, instead of screwing Out the idle screw to fatten up the idle mix, I'd install the next size up, .265 I believe, and see what is what..

So easy & cheap,, 10 minutes, a couple days of test-ride and so easy to put it back to current status..

Something to consider my good man..

Tommy
Are you sure your initial ignition timing is on the money...for your engine, which I seem to recall is'nt quite stock ?? If it's slightly retarded for your needs it would tend to fire the leaner AFR easier than a fatter one...and account at least in part for the small pilot/slow jet and how little you can turn-out your idle mix screw...maybe !?! That and if your still running the stock Evo ignition you might want to note (in case not aware) that they're known to have a pretty sluggish advance curve...so I would'nt expect a little advancing of the intial timing to hurt the rest of your RPM ranges too much either. Although...then again...I suppose it could all just kinda snow-ball into a little corrective jetting up there too

Anyways, I dunno...just tossing you another idea that just might go hand in hand with what frisco's tossed in...or not...and only take another 10 minutes OR days to play with eh !?!

thanks for the advise and encouragement frisco. after a little more research in the s&s manuals...looks like i've got the accelerator pump adjustment screw cranked way out...so probably needs some rejetting...

seems to idle fine, just still boggs out when i give it the gas...

Thanks Evoken and FR. It has a Screamin Eagle ignition that was installed in ohhh maybe 1990, and I have not checked the timing. I should likely get a timing light and do so and report back with the findings. Actually I'll need some hep with that anyway. As for the 265 jet I have one in my goody bag and am quite able to swap that out. Now.....I'll go looking for the evo primary threads because as of 15 minutes ago that is now my primary concern.

You have the wrong picture. The dual runner intake goes from two runners into one. Your photo is of a S&S Dual Runner Throttle body with associated intake.
