Default Head Bolts

When I changed the heads on my bike this winter, I wanted to do something about those yucky looking whitish head bolts.

Sure, I could spend some hard earned bucks on those fancy, expensive chrome head bolt caps. But that wouldn't take care of the corrosion, just hide it.

What I did, and I think looks better than those chrome caps on a black engine, was to wire brush off the oxidation and corrosion on my head bolts. Then I painted the heads with high temp. matt black engine paint.

I think they look great, anf blend in with the engine. The hi temp engine paint should hold up for a long time.

On my 07FXDWG
I got a small bottle of model paint [ yup reg. paint] in a red sparkle color, took my time and painted them. Looks like red anodized

I put Calyx exhaust manifold dressing on them. Took on a cool gray tone that looked great and holds up to any heat.

67Ray, Is there any prep work that has to be done to the bolts before applying the exhaust manifold dressing or can it be done while the bolts are installed?

Nope - just smear it on. If they are still shiny then I do not know, mine were oxidized when I did it. Never comes off.
