Default Best Magazine Harley Tech For Under $250 ?

We are looking for more articles on how to improve your Harley (new or used) for $250 or less.

We have a number of these articles lined up for American Iron Magazine but need more for all sorts of motorcycles from Shovelheads to Sportsters, Softails, baggers, Buells and Dynaglides.

Got a great idea, suggestion or "How I Did It" articles for us to consider publishing in the magazine? Please share it with us here on the forum or through a PM to me or one of our staff.

When I get my shovel, I will keep that topic in mind...and see what I can do for $250.
For now... let my mind wander some..... hmmmm..... maybe sheet metal work, or move the shocks underneath to make them hidden? If it has points, then an ignition upgrade could happen....

I think a carb on each side would look cool.... I saw one in Laughlin.. I liked it

I'd like to see an open primary conversion with that budget in mind.

Ok, I know the last 2 are over that budget....

Buzz I just replaced my Brakes and Rotors (With Frisco's help) and have way better brakes. Less than $200.00. The best $200.00 I have spent on my bike! Sorry but I had a brain fart and didn't take any Pictures. Only pics I would have are of the rotor and brake pads not on the bike and some of it on the bike.
Is that what you are looking for?

Other than the brain fart, yes, that's what we are looking for. Too bad you didn't shoot it as we'd like to share that sort of upgrade with our readers.

Ok Buzz, I've got a few for you and they are probably my favorite mods on the ole Retro-Glide.

First thing I did when I got the bike was to order some 2" drop shocks and a bagger brace from Phoenix Customs. They'll modify your supplied shocks for $175.00 or send you modified ones for $275.00. Either way, it was a great way to modify the stance of the bike. Seat height is lowered, CG is better and overall handling was improved. And an easy mod for a first timer.

The bagger brace is a little over your budget at $289.00 but well worth the money. Very easy install and noticeable improvement from that ass wiggle baggers are known for. Company was great to deal with and I highly recommend their products.

Bitchin Baggers

My next favorite is the Klockwerks Ergo-Up handlebars. Bars and new grips are right at $250.00 and with the help of my handy dandy service manual, it's a one day job for a novice scooter mechanic like myself. Klockwerks also has been fantastic to deal with. I recently purchased one of their new 8.5" flare windshields and it's also under the $250.00 mod limit.

SCARY psycho. We are thinking alike again. I'm thinking that when I replace the rear tire I am going to do the rear rotor at that time and maybe if Frisco feels up to it and I can afford the beer for Frisco, we can redo the front as well. Should be much easier this time as I won't be as slow as the first time! Yup not a virgin any more Still new and a Rookie but at least I have done it once!

The HD Deluxe oil cooler I installed on my '06 Low Rider was $250.78 including shipping when ordered from Zanottis. A little too high for the less than 250 tech advice but worth it in my opinion for riding here in Louisiana with temps above 90 on a consistent basis for 3 months or more. I think I put some pictures on here if you are interested. You may have already done an oil cooler article and my pictures are probably not as detailed as what you need. That's all I have. Sorry. Everything else was way above 250. The mufflers, air cleaner and PCIII with dynotune was about $800. The mag wheels I just ordered with the installation kits were a little over $1,000.

If you got the time...... we got the beer... uh, I mean, why not start a new thread for each of your upgrades, with any pictures you have...

I am intereseted in the oil cooler for my shovel/ I went to a local bike night a while back, and there were 5 shovels there, and all of them had coolers......that tells me I better do mine.
