Default Cruise Control

I'm looking for tips to install cruise control on an O4 Electra Glide? Are there special tools or is this something best left to the dealer? I'm pretty handy and do all my own maint etc. Since coming back from renting an 09 electra Glide I'm hooked on this for the long haul rides!

At one time I had purchased a cruise control kit for my 03 FLHT. I ended up taking it back and just changed out the throttle lock with a lever. However, I read the instructions and I didn't think it was too difficult for a novice like myself as long as I was feelin frisky...... and had my handy dandy service manual.

I dont have much insight on installing the HD electric cruise. However if you are looking for a throttle lock. Nothing beats a Cruise Mate.

I have installed many of them on both my bike and others. They are a top notch piece.

Hopefully someone who has installed one of these will fill you in on the procedure.
I never figured I would care for cruise but having carpal tunnel syndrome I find myself using the unit on my Ultra quite often. Let us know how it works out.

I hear you about the Carpel Tunnel, B6 seems to be working for me. Although it is just starting to act up!

Hey Flathead,

I installed CC on my 07 FLHX it should be close to the same application.

It was mostly easy, you take off the left side cover & just plug it in & bolt it down as per the included instructions. You also have to route the cable to a very little "button" on the pully that the throttle cable connect to. Getting that little F&%$% retaining clip on took me about 2 hours! You need a small set of angled needle nose pliers.

Then you swap out the bottom part of you hand controls & both cables. NO problem!

Of course you also need to install the on/off switch on the dash. To do this you need the service manual so you can see just how to get the key mech. off. It's a little bit of a pain but, it's not rocket science. There are no feeler guages, micrometers or torque wrenches involved!

I have the repair and parts manual. It looks like the manual recommends you buy the ignition switch alignment tool and switch connector removal tool, sounds like you didn't need them

Thank You

I didn't need any special tools. I don't think you should with your '04 either.
