Default mileage

I recently purchased 2000 flhtc with carb. It has scremen eagle pipes, air filter and i assume been rejetted. I am only getting about 30 mpg. Is this normal? I do not ride it hard and when on the interstate usualy cruise at about 65-70 mph. Any suggestions or comments appreciated.

Default Should be better

I have a 02 Ultra, stock- It gets 40 mpg. It's fuel injected but I think that would only add a mile or two per gallon if any. Take a plug reading. If jetting is ok the deposits should be light gray. If black it's too rich, if white it's too lean.

Default mileage

appreciate the suggestions. I have thought of changing the gear ratios, but have varied responses from those I have asked about the practicality of such a move. I guess I can buy a lot of gas for the money involved. I have thought of having it put on the dyno. I used to ride a Suzuki 1500LC that was emensly improved by a new jet kit and some dyno time.

Default All due respect

With all due respect soulman13, although high fuel consumption makes a person think "too rich", given the modifications chances are it is too lean. With a lean mixture the engine produces insufficient power, thus more throttle is required to achieve the same speed resulting in higher fuel consumption and more seriously overheating, detonation and possible engine damage. ddegrasse, you need to make some runs at highway speed, cut it off clean, and see what your plugs look like. My guess is that they will be chalky white- too lean. Chances are you will need to rejet. Good luck, let us know how it goes. Ride safe God Bless. Sincerely: Shovelmike.
