Default Softtail Duece

I'm now looking at the Softtail Duece. I'm concerned about the EPA modifications to the 2006 models, does anyone know what they are or which carb. system is best? Should I just go with a 2005 with the regular carb. or the fuel injection system? Thanks.

Why would you not want the FI?

Why go with the EFI? Carbs are simple, fairly easy maintainace and mods. I don't recall ever having to but a $600 chip or gizmo plus more $ for software and the laptop to modify settings. I get a jet kit or power tube, fiddle with the idle and rich/lean screws.
I don't have electronics that are exposed to the elements (unlike the EFI all tucked safe in my truck), or that can't take a regular beating on rough roads and vibration.
EFI doesn't even give any better MPGs, and the only "advantage" I can see if that you don't have to bother with a choke knob. That's a calorie saver!
Stock CV's are fine, but if you havethe bucks I;d get a Screamin' Eagle, S&S, or Mikuni.

Personally, I too like carbs...over EFI in the V-Twin application. I dont want all of the complexity (and benefit too granted) on a machine that sees as severe a duty as a street HD and takes me far and wide.

A vtwin runs hot, it rains and gets wet, it shakes like hell, it sees a ton of dirt - it is not as stable an environment for electronics as what a car provides - at least thats my opinion and I'm sticking to it!!.

I can also noodle a carb - super E's in the case of my bikes - to run passably and electronics are not a personal strong suit - so i go with what works for me, on the bikes i own.

Now - i have logged a little time on newer EFI bikes and they run flawlessly - but i dont own a newer bike - i own older evos - both coming up on 20yrs old.

My super E's been on my bikes a real long time adn i got a great value out of them. I wonder how the EFI bikes will be running and what equipt they will be using when they turn 20.

considerations...considerations....LOL...either way you cant go wrong - you'll be in the wind on a new bike - a HD to boot and thats what really matters right?

enjoy - no matter which way you go!

have a 04 FXSTDI and love the FI especially sinc ehte big bore kit was installed with 211 cams. I ride the bike every day in any type of weather and have 20,000 miles on it and have never had any problems. When it's cold you start the bike and that's it. You can keep the choke.
