Default Question about K&N Air Filter for Sportster

Can someone tell me why K&N air filters for XLs are so @#$'n expensive?

If u check around they are for anything! But they work great & u usally never have to replace them. They are worth the $

I love K&N, but I was just sort of puzzled why HD's lowest price bike has an element that cost $10 - $30 more than any other model's element?
One was given to me by a friend of mine who had aquired a few in a deal, but it turned out it was for a Buell so it didn't fit. Bummer for me, but someone on ebay made out with a cheap K&N. So I'm hoping I can find a similar deal there.

Look at it this way...you'll only buy one, instead of having to buy a new one every year.
Just clean it, re-oil it and go. Added benefit is better performance and gas mileage; especially with a free flow exhaust and a re-jet.

The Screaming Eagle (high - flow) air cleaner (about $80.00) will work just as good as the K&N, if you are going to re-jet (Yost power tube about $110.00) and add slip-ons (about $250.00)

The SE filters are K&N's. Plan on getting a K&N withthis year's tax returns.
Have some nice SE II slip-ons already and it's jetted properly. Had a few comments that for an 883 with just soe slip-ons it's pretty peppy. Some even asked if I had the 1200 upgrade on it.
A Yost power tube is something I want to check into, and I'll get one as soon as I hit lotto or can morph into a hot babe and dance on a pole.

I guess you're running the CV 40,, yes.?
Jireh Cycles has 2 yost tubes for the 40 for $50.00 and the other for $70.00...
Emulsion tube, spring, jets, etc....

The CV 44 kit is 75.00...
I feel that I did get a very small perfomance difference with the tube in the super E & B on the 93" shovel, but I felt no diff at all with the 120" or the 113"...

Hell, it might be worth 110.00 to see you in 5 inch heels dancing around a pole naked, yeah baby...!!

I did the upgrades on my '02 883, the V & H straight shots added some power, the jets added some power, but the SE air cleaner (K&N) made the most noticable difference of all! Well worth the asking price, and I'll never have to replace it.

Yost power tubes are fairly easy to install. (The emulsion tube atomizes the gas more efficiently) All you have to remember is to use the drill bits (7/32" & 1/8") You'll need to purchase a .46 slow speed jet as it does'nt come with the kit. I know I'm gonna hear it about the .46, but it works well. Go up one more size on the high speed jet.

How about some Screamin' Eagle heads and mild cams... The last one I did Dyno'ed to 91 HP!

Be very (very) careful with the plunger diaphragm when you disassemble/reassemble the carb.
