| | The gas you add has additives that clean. Fuel now gives a good cleaner burn compaired to years ago. It wont hurt to add it. One bottle should last a year. Divide it in 3rds. Dump some in the fall, spring and middle of summer. About $3 a bottle. Hey go for it.
To me its a waste of money. Just another way for Oil company's to make a buck. |

| | | My dad was a top diesel and gas truck mechanic back in Michigan and he was a big believer in those fuel injection cleaners. The fleet he worked for had done a lot of product testing of the various fuels and additives from different companies. He said that while some of the gas available had contained effective cleaners at some time in the past, like Mobil and Chevron, most of the gas we get today doesn't do any real cleaning of the injectors. So he would get the best injection cleaners and periodically run it through all his injected engines including his outboard motor. It's job is to remove the mineral and chemical deposits in the injector pasageways and you have to do it before the build up gets too much. He was adamant that they work, at least the good ones, and he said to use the actual injection cleaners and not the so-called tune up additives that claim to clean the injectors as well as the internals.
I don't recall the brand names he recommended and I'm not recomending that anyone use them on their FI Harleys. Harley FI might have internal components that don't like the cleaner chemicals. I don't know one way or the other. I bet Harley would know but I also bet they wouldn't tell you even if they did. They'd probably be afraid some knucklehead would over do it and screw something up. Of course if they had some chemical company make some up for them and they could charge three times what it's worth because it said "Harley approved" on the label, then they might recommend it.
I'm just passing this opinion that my dad had (and I really respected his opinion) on this subject in general. I use these products in my car and truck. My FXR is carburated so I don't use these products in it. |

You're right there. After I read your post I was reminded that my Dad actually got his stuff from the local outboard dealer's service department cuz he knew the service manager there. He said you couldn't get "the good stuff" at the auto parts stores. That was five years ago back in Michigan. I'd bet you probably would have a hard time getting it at all here in California with the tight emissions regs we have. Thanks for reminding me. I've been buying my stuff at Auto Zone. It sure would be nice if someone like Consumers Report would test these potions. |

| | | Hey Majic
What's in that stuff? Is it a cleaner or octane booster or what? Just curious. |

| | It's a gas treatment - Cleans injectors/carbs, cleans and lubes the top end, and seems to give the gas a little more git-up 'n go. I don't think it raises octane, but it sure does make the bike run smoother and better.
I'm sort of a gadget junkie. I like trying new and different products (waxes, cleaners, whatever) and I tried a lot of things and as far as gas treatments/carb & injector cleaners go, Lucas gas treatment works great, at least in my bike. There are other products out there, some cheaper, some pricier, but Lucas just seems to work better for me. | | | |
