Default coughing carb

friend has a 1979 fxr shovel. he just got rid of his old air cleaner and put on an s&s and has cycle shack pipes.. we cleaned the carb and jets everything seems to work fine the bike idles great and runs great at high speeds but we get a cought out of the carb at mid. range speeds around 55 or 60 miles perhour....

Jeeeze, there's alota this going around huh....
Sounds like a lean condition perhaps where it transitions over to the main or high speed jet... Are we talkin about the stock Keihin carb..?? Is it an intermitant cough if he stays at that speed..? Or just once going through it, or both..? Still runnin points..??
I'm guessing the SS cleaner and New pipes leaned it out a bit...

yes its the stock Keihin carb and its an intermitant cough as he stays at that speed. no points. it eletronic ignition.. thanks will pass on the info.. Stu.
