Default The wife is gonna kill me...

I'm sure some of you have seen my other post where I purchased the SE Pro Race Tuner and was inquiring about the ease of tuning it. Well my laptop took a crap on me so I have no way of tuning it and I'm not sure if the dealer will take it back. It hasn't been opened and I still have the receipt for it, so IMO it shouldn't be a problem, but when I called the dealer the parts manager told me to bring it in and he would take a look at it because they are not suppose to take returns on electrical items (would of been nice to know when I purchased the d@mn thing). Secondly I can't find a dealer to tune it for me because it is not street legal and the EPA, blah, blah, blah!

So for the sake and ease of things (this is where the wife is probably gonna kille me) I just ordered the V&H Fuelpak.

After some extensive research I have come to the conclusion that with SE Pro EFI Race Tuner you have to have (well don't have to, but would greatly benefit from) a dyno tune. More $$$ after I have already spent more than intended to fix the scoot. I read multiple times that if you're only going to change the exhaust and intake a V&H Fuelpak will work just fine. I have done those two changes and those are my only plans for mods as far as the engine is concerned. Maybe in another 80K miles I will upgrade everything else and change to a SERT. Now I just have to pray that the dealer will indeed take my SERT back and I can use that money towards a new tank or try and work a sweet deal with someone on eBay who is looking for one.

THE DEALER TOOK THE SERT BACK....

Exclamation Move!!!

Can't find a dealer to tune the SERT, just move out of California. If they can't tune them (I assume because it's against the law - Greenie land) why are they allowed to sell the tuner? They know what you were going to do with it. I'm sure your wife will help you out with your problem, and be glad to move.

Yeah Un. The Fuel Pack will do fine to compensate for the changes you made. I hope you can find a buyer for your SERT. IMHO the Power Commander is a very good choice. When simply dealing with exhaust and air cleaner changes you download a canned map and can fine tune to a degree with the buttons. If you are savvy enough you can change the values in the cells for each RPM/throttle opening (though best done on a dyno w/ exhaust analyzer). You can get a dyno tune and custom map.
When dealing with more major changes you can change the ignition curve as well as the fuel curve.
These things can be accomplished with the SERT as well but the PC III seems more user friendly.

JC- The 550 will cover a new tank, I hope I can get rid of it.

UP- If I could move I would, but my job keeps me here and will for at least the next 3 year up to the next 9 years, then I can retire and move on. The same question crossed my mind when I called to get a quote on tuning it and they told me they couldn't. It is because it's against the law. Just like when I had my mustang and I took it in to have the exhaust welded on it, the mech freaked because I didn't have any cats on it.

Shovel- When it comes time for more major changes I'll rethink the SERT or PC III. Not having a laptop is what is making this difficult. Well I have one, but it is not functioning properly and I don't want to risk anything and have it cost me more in the long run. If my laptop was working like it should then I would have not even considered the fuelpak seems how I have the SERT in hand, but oh well...lesson learned. I really think the dealer will take it back. Afterall they are the only ones I have purchased any of my parts from since I started this and I've dealt with the same guy behind the parts counter each time and after spending what I've spent with them if they cannot take back an unopened item then it's probably time to find another dealer and one that is closer. The current dealer I go to is 45 mins down the road on a good day of traffic. If not I should be able to ebay it. We'll see what happens.

Oops....missed that one.

On the flip side the dealer took the SERT back with no problems and no questions asked. So now I've got the tank on order since the SERT and tank was pretty much a cent for cent trade.

Monday the fuelpak will be here, we'll see how that "install" goes. I've downloaded the directions and read them over once or twice. Sounds like a pretty easy task.

It sounds like things are working out really well. Regarding the laptop situation, if it's a few years old you might want to shop around and get a new one...that's all I use anymore..with a wireless broadband card. As a plus, it'll come in handy if you do some more modifications and need a more comprehensive tuner.
