As Sprung said above, we have been running the 10% for many years here in IL.
I have not had any prob. with it either. This also helps durning the winters, Ethanol is the same thing as "heat" that you put in your gas tank to keep it from freezing and holding water in the tank. Since I have been running the 10% I never buy the "heat", no need to. As for loss of power, I'm not sure never really noticed it, we have all size motors and they have been running fine and for many years. You can't find 100% gas here anymore that I know of. On each and every pump there is a sticker that shows (10% ethanol) here. there are also gov. stickers on each pump, I may have to look to see if it show it on there as well.

Hi Boomer

I'm not surprised you have not felt a diff in power using the 10% ethanol mix because you don't have real 100% GAS to compare it to..

If you were to fill up on 100% GAS you would certainly feel the diff..

As I stated before, Gas used to have 125,000 BTU's per gal.. A few years ago it was lowered to 120,000 BTU's partly cuz of removal of good stuff (can't remember right now what stuff) and the introduction of some ethanol..

Now that there's even more ethanol it prob has even less BTU's..

Ethanol has 87,000 BTU's per gal.. Sooo, if we could run 100% gas again we would enjoy more power and much more mileage===more power, more mileage..

Benzine was one of the first beneficial chemicals to be taken out of gasoline, maybe that's the one you're thinking of, Frisco. The chemical makeup is so much different now of days. Back in the 50's and 60's the gas used to have a pleasant smell (pleasant price too).

Hey Mike

Yes, it is one of the chemicals that has been eliminated or at least lessened,, but it's the others I can't think of right now..

Tri-methybenzene (tolulene) and di-methybenezne (xylene) are cleaning agents and also have octane properties..

They both have about 117 octane and, if I remember my research//reading, also have more energy (BTU's)..

I could look it up again, but heck, some of the other members should have some of the fun too..
