Default Corrct intake manifold for a mic 45 on a 107

Hello, i'm looking for the right intake manifold for my s&s 107" with a mikuni 45. I have the original s&s intake with the rubber manifold addapter but the carb stick out around 7/8" to far ,that's with the doherty power pac backing plate. The jireh cat say's i need a 266 394 1.800 port but it's been on back order for the last 6 month's . Any info would be great, thank's.

Hey frisco, the backing plate on the air cleaner is 7'8" off of the head breather bolts. The bolts are the extended version for the doherty air cleaner backing plate. Your advice on the carb was right on, on a 1200 mile trip i averaged 35 mpg @ 70-75 mph. Mic's all the way !!!!!!!!

Hi Joe

Hey,, fantastic that you had a great trip.. Yeah baby..!
I think 35mpg at 75 is kinda low.. Averaging 85 on the 120" with the 48 I get about 45mpg..

Anyway-----
What manifold have you been using all this time.? Why do you need the 266 394..??

The length of the 266 394 manifold in Jireh is the distance between the heads, it doesn't sit in closer if that's what you're thinking about..

Do you mean the extended bolts do not fill the 7/8" gap for use with the Doherty plate..?

I have had to make "fillers/shims" of various kinds to fill the gap between custom applications of carbs, manifolds, backing plates, and cleaners etc etc etc...
You may have to also..
Welcome to Non-OEM custom applications my man.. Have a ball..

I hope I'm understanding what you're asking,, let me know and I'll come up with something..

OK OK OK, I think I finally figured out what you're askin Joe, forget part of what I said up above..

OkOk, here it is..

You want a 266 Ultima manifold.. The 394 is the S&S equivalent..

The 394 is most likely what you've been using all this time cuz it is the correct S&S (bolt on carb) manifold for your motor..

You're wanting the 266 I guess cuz it is the Spigot kind.. The Mik slips onto the spigot instead of bolting up to the adapter on the 394 S&S manifold..

Yeah,, then you just might get a lil closer to the head breather bolts,, gotcha now..

BUT, if it's back-ordered to Jireh it's prob back-ordered to all the other cats as well.. Just call around is all you can do..
OR, create/make/fabricate what it is that you need to fill in that gap..

Like I said,, I'll assist more if I can..

Frisco:

Just a reminder that (if memory serves me) Joe's running his trips with a side-car,etc..accounting for at least some of the lower than expected MPG you commented about

Hey Ken
That's right-- I forgot that Joe is one of our Hell-raisers that lets Nothing stand in his way..
35mpg is prob very good dragging a side-car around, heck, that's tatamount to toting a couple fat gi, er, ah, never mind..

Hey gent's , my problem was the flange type manifold, i ordered the spiget type an it should do just fine. Evo is right about the tub, it takes a little extra gas but it's great for haulin all my gear and every one's helmets when we leave ny . Now for the next question, my front tappet was makin some noise, the wheel froze up and did some damage to the lobe on the cam. I believe its a 585 cam , any suggestions on a good replacement cam. I'm sticking with s&s. I could use a little more top end the bottom is pleanty strong. Thank's,

Hi Joe

I had to go to my S&S dealer catalog to remember about the cam profiles..

Could it be that all the Low-end power you speak of is also from your gearing..??

Anyway, I had S&S 600 cams in both my 113"s and they had good power till they came apart at 4000 miles..
The S&S 600 has 10* more intake duration but the same exhaust duration as your 585.. That and the 15* more lift will translate into a wee more power and some will go to the top-end..

You'll have to make sure your spring spacing is correct for a 600..
I rekon you'll need more spacing for an S&S 631 or 640..
That's it-- it goes from 585 to 600 to 631, 640..
Have a ball..
