I pondered the same type of question about six years ago. Only difference was Holley. I got mixed reviews on the Holley some loved it some hated it. S&S and Mikuni have been around for ever and both are reliable.I went on Edelbrocks site this morning and read about thier carbs. It's very similar to the Mikuni and claims 7 horses over the S&S butterfly style carb. I've been running a mikuni for six years and it has performed flawlessly. I'm sure you will hear the same for S&S. My only concern with the Edelbrock would be if it goes the route of the Holley in a year or two.

Hey BG
In 30 years of building and riding I've RUN not just tried, Linkert, Bendix, SU, Keihin-Butterfly 36mm and 38mm, S&S B,E,and G, and Mikuni- 45 and 48... Although I run an edlebrock 650 4-bbl on my p-up and it runs fine, I admit to no experience with the sickle EDB, and I never heard good about em...
In my experience I think the Super-B is the best S&S ever made, I don't like the E or G at all... 5 years ago I first ran a Mik 45 on my 120", ran well but then installed a Super G and it made more power, wasn't perfect but OK... I've only had a couple of OMG moments with sickles- one of them was when I put that same 45 Mik on my 93" shovel... Up to then the Super B ran circles around the E on the 93" and the G just bogged it down... BUT damn, the Mik 45 was like adding inches to it... Then I wondered about that new 48 Mik for the 120"... Well, it was another OMG moment, the 120" never ran soo good... Then I put another Mik 45 on my head-worked deep breathing, big cam, 10-1 comp. 80" with the same results, before that the E ran OK, the G better, but the Mik 45 woke that baby up... With the newer bigger, better breathing motors carburation is important, I am now Mikuni 100% but I can only offer My experience...

thanks for the info fellas... am looking to redo my top end this winter, and am looking at different combos. so far i think the best bang for the buck is the edlebrock proformer rpm set up... they suggest a 40mm mikuni or their 40mm but am tring to get input from riders that have exp. with the carbs, so thanks again for the advice! BG
