Default Sticking Throttle

I'm hoping someone can answer my question regarding a sticking throttle grip?

I lubricated my cables over the winter and lately my throttle at idle will stick a bit when I go to take off. There seems to be alot of side to side end play?

I just tried adjusting the cables again there seemed to be some looseness in the adjusters, it seems a little better. However when I took the switch cover off the side of the rear idle cable seems to be wearing. If I push the trottle grip up tight it gets better.

I think it might be time for a set of new grips?

By side to side end play am I correct in my understanding that it is not excess play rolling the throttle open and closed? You are talking about the throttle barrel sliding in and out in relation to the bar end? You should be able to adjust out that slop by sliding the throttle housing inward slightly on the bar and tightening the screws securely. A little grease or graphite on the inside of the throttle barrel/ outside of the handlebar where it rides will help smooth out throttle action a lot.

Flathead - I had this same type of problem after changing grips one time. They were a little loose side to side and I tried to make it really tight. Well when I did that it made the cable ride up out of the slot in the grip onto the ramp on the side of the slot and the cable was jamming between the turn signal housing and the grip causing it to hang. Pulled it apart and set it all back to where I had just a little bit of end play and lubed the cable on the ramp/slot and haven't had any problems since.
Just something might be worth a try.
