Default Power Commander success without dyno???

How many have added a power commander and been satisfied without doing a dyno run? Are they as plug and play as I'm hearing?

I am about to order one and would like to avoid the expense of the dyno run. I have true duals and a stage 1 AC on a stock engine. I get decel pops and the bike runs pretty hot.
If I need to do the dyno I'll start saving my pennies now.

A canned map, either loaded by the retailer or downloaded from the Power Commander website will do the job quite well. The maps are known to run a little rich and should get rid of most of the decel pop,(you will usually get some pop and rumble on decel with a low restriction exhaust no matter what you do) and in my experience temps will drop noticeably (haven't checked with a thermometer but I don't feel like I'm on a rotisserie any more)It's pretty much plug and play. There are a lot of people with dynos who will be glad to take your money, but unless you are drag racing where every hundredth of a second in ET is vital the money is better spent on gas to ride, ride. ride.

Had a power commander III installed with stage 1 download. When put on Dyno the A/FR was right on. I think if you have standard upgrades the maps provided should have you right in the ball park, but there is no substitution for a good dyno run to fine tune!
I have SE Exhaust and K&N Filter on my 2004 Dyna.

An off the shelf PC III with a canned map will improve the bike's performance if there have been any performance upgrades ie: exhaust or intake/airfilter. If more mods are done to the bike (head work, cams, bigger cyls), some type of fuel managment system is needed whether it is PC III, SERT, or a variety of others available. A canned map is just that, canned. Not necessarily "one size fits all" but, generic for what upgrades have been done to the bike. It won't take into consideration your elevation, weather conditions or, more imprtantly, your riding style. Think of it as the difference between canned vegetables and fresh vegetables. Fresh tastes better (to me) but costs more. A good tuner can dial your bike in better than a canned map but, is it worth the expense? that's a decision you have to make.
