Default high air flow systems

i am wanting to install one of the high air flow cleaners on my 08 HSTC. it states that i must have the EFI recalibrated. can i ride the bike without doing this? Will it hurt the bike if I don't recalibrate?

Best if you do! These bikes come out of the factory running lean already, add a high flow filter and you're just adding to the problem. Plus , with a correct re-calibration you'll be running cooler

thanks for replying. i talked to my local harley shop today, they told me that if i install the heavy breather air cleaner system, they will have to put it on the dyno for a cost of $700.
i have a stock 08 HSTC, with slip on screamin eagle mufflers, that i put thunder city baffles in .
do i still need to put that kind of money in the tune job?

I wouldn't pay over $200 tops.

I've got an '07 FLHX with V&H true duals, Bassani muffs (2 1/2" baffles) and a heavy breather. Didn't drop the extra $600 for the SEST/SERT or anything else and the bike is still running normally. I monitor the mileage and temp and they haven't changed, still getting around 41mpg and temps run about 230F-260F. Didn't gain any power, etc. but got the look and sound I wanted.
I will say that I added the exhaust first and was getting popping on decel, etc. until adding the heavy breather then everything smoothed out.
Still plan to add the tuner but need to plan on dropping that cash for a later time.
I may be burning up my engine but the plugs don't show it and the temps don't either.
Your call just a little input from someone who's done it without the tuner.
