Default California Air Resources Board

Saw this on another site....

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) announced recently that it concluded an investigation against Dynojet Research, Inc. At issue was the company’s "Power Commander" that can be used to alter the air-fuel mixture and engine timing of on- and off-road motorcycles. CARB said that the installation of these devices would adversely affect the emissions control systems of vehicles that were certified by the original equipment manufacturers to comply with the agency’s emissions standards. Dynojet has now certified a California version of the "Power Commander" and has agreed to pay $1,000,000 in penalties to the California Air Pollution Control Fund. Dynojet Research. For those of you on the left coast it aint looking pretty. Later, Mike

The heat is on. I've also read on the Web that Jesse James was fined either $200k or $300k for building violator bikes. I thought it was the EPA but don't know for sure. It's hard to tell truth from rumor on the internet but both reports ring true.

Here's another one, last year I was talking to the owner of one of the big SF Bay area dealers here in the East Bay and he told me that one of the local big time HD dealers had been fined $600k for modifying emissions stuff on bikes. Of course this is just more of the, "Billy told me that Jimmy told him that he read somewhere that..." Anyway, the dealer that told me that said they wouldn't touch any bikes with aftermarket pipes or any other non OEM emissions stuff. However, while I was at another Harley dealer's parts desk a couple weeks ago a young babe was there ordering a Thunderheader for her boyfriend's Dyna. He was going to install it himself.

I wonder if Dynojet made enough off their PC's to cover their fine. Everyone knows, "You don't step on Superman's cape."

Being an outlaw has its benefits and penalties. My bike is a rolling $10,000 EPA fine....but they gotta catch me first. I'm still flyin' under the tree line.
