EPA and CARB When you read the article below you will realize the serious issues that are coming our way. I read in another magazine an entire discussion of this issue and prompted me to re join the AMA( had dropped out over some directional issue which they seem to have fixed). This is coming and we as a group -motorcyclists - need to ban together to make sure that this doesn't become the law of the land.
I would like to see AIM take up this issue and get opinions how to address this "loss of our freedoms."
I don't really care what they do with cars- since they are the majority of the problem but I do have a problem when it comes to motorcycles - are we easy targets because we are "independent" unorganized individuals? When you read the thread on this board of 'what do you do for a living" we are a very diverse group - well educated - influential. We need to make sure everyone hears about this ...join AMA or A.B.A.T.E and make sure they focus on this issue - if not - we will end up Like the EU - with a set of laws that bans ANY modifications to the engine other than what the OEM puts on the bike.... Ok I am off the soap box.....
Article below - short version
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) announced recently that it concluded an investigation against Dynojet Research, Inc. At issue was the company's "Power Commander" that can be used to alter the air-fuel mixture and engine timing of on- and off-road motorcycles. CARB said that the installation of these devices would adversely affect the emissions control systems of vehicles that were certified by the original equipment manufacturers to comply with the agency's emissions standards. Dynojet has now certified a California version of the "Power Commander" and has agreed to pay $1,000,000 in penalties to the California Air Pollution Control Fund.
