| | Even though most of us don't understand the full effect of the new regulations,i think it's safe to say that the motor company has finally shot itself in the foot. Greed will get you every time. My understanding is that all pre-06 models have been grandfathered which means you should be able to take your pre-06 model to your local dealer and still have performance work done. There's quite a few out there so the dealers should be ok for awhile. What comes after that? I believe in the long run dealers will close because sales of bikes, parts and acessories and service will plummet. How many harleys do you know of that are still running around stock? Have you noticed all the screamin eagle parts with the crossed flags on them? If you can't install them how do you sell them? Yes,there are some of us who can do our own work but those sales would'nt keep them afloat. What's next, are we going to have to prove that we're only going to use these parts offroad? I hope i'm wrong............. Posted by: mtyevo on Dec 3, 05 8:14:48 am |

| | According to the DEC issue of AIM any bike manufctured after 1979 is subject to the "tampering" section of the clean air act. As I understand it, many of us who have changed our pipes, air cleaners, etc, are already in violation! What we need to do is get together and protect our rights with lobbying and legislation at all levels of Government. The National Rifle Association has been extremely effective at protecting second amendment rights by working within the system. We need to learn from that example. Spread the word whenever you are around anyone who rides, and join your local ABATE chapter. Posted by: E3MW on Dec 4, 05 8:05:10 pm |

| | E3MW,Actually it was anything manufactured after 1978. My question is what did they mean when they said that pre-06's were grandfathered? does it mean that the motor company is absolved of any responsibility for all the "PERFORMANCE" modifications that the dealers made to customers bikes over the last 27 years? | | am I correct in understanding that because of the new EPA regs, you will be unable to upgrade exhaust (read change) and carb/efi (stage one) on the 06 models? If so, does anyone think that dealerships will be telling buyers this? you know, don't ask don't tell. will anybody be able to make these upgrades? Posted by: 02rdkg on Dec 9, 05 7:52:16 pm |

| | Why does the EPA always crack down on the public harder than on Corporate society? the little polluter of a 2 cylinder engine can not be compared to in theory or realitivity to the overbearing ever puffing smoke stacks of the power companies who put more green house gases into the air than all the motorcycles in the world for as long as they have been making motorcycles. Can we no longer customize our cycle because Corporate society "the Big guys" are threatened by the ever increasing custom builders making a bigger profit than corporate society? and are pollution contraptions the only way to keep the rider supporting the dealer & corporations? By the way EPA also wants to control the smell of manure on farms? Where will they stop? Posted by: Citygirl1305 on Dec 11, 05 9:09:30 pm |

| | Thank heaven they don't crack down on big business or power companies more...
Can you imagine the prices of everything, I mean EveryThing if big business was cracked down on more than it is about anything, and try living without the power Co's power...
I agree they step on us more, but the solutiuon is not to question why they don't harrass someone else, but instead, getting the Gov. off All of our backs...
And as far as this green house gasses thing goes, jeeezus, are you our token Sierra club member..?? They're as un-American as the American Communists Liberties Union... Posted by: frisco-rigid on Dec 11, 05 11:20:49 pm |

| | City girl, I'm from the northeast and the power companies in my state were burning low sulphur fuel before they started the emissions testing program for automobiles. Almost to the day, when when they started the program the state allowed the power companies to start burning high sulphur fuel. Talk about a slap in the face! The politicians don't have the B#&$s to stand up to the big corporations, it might hurt their re-election fund! What we put out of our v-twins is nothing compared to the poisons that they're constantly dumping and when they do get caught they drag it through the courts for years until they finally grease somebody and then magically it all disappears! I better stop now before i start using language that is'nt appropriate for this forum Posted by: mtyevo on Dec 12, 05 7:18:18 pm | | | |
