Default The Epa Is Watching ! ! !

Be careful what you say on this site, the EPA is watching! I personally found alot of holes in the new EPA regulations and there's many ways to get around them but i won't post them on this site because i don't want to give the EPA any ideas. So again be careful what you say! ! !

Hmm, if i didnt know better, i'd think there is some paranoia being shown here - but for arguments sake - even if the government is watching us - so what? Is that something new?

The horse is already out of the barn, this legislature has been adopted...what? you guys gonna start spiking trees in opposition?

WTF would they be watching us for? They have all the ammunition in the form of LAW to clamp a baffle and convertor on every V Twin on the North American continent. They don't need a war-chest - thay have it and they know it. They hold all the cards right now, you don't think they know that? Will the EPA clamp down on bikes and pipes over the next few years - yes if the bike buying trend continues. It's all about the duckets - period. States need revenue - feds need revenue....inspections gain revenue. Before this "rebirth" or the "Second Golden Age" of bikes we were off the radar but be sure that we're on it now.

I just read an interview article in Quick Throttle on Roger Bouguet. He stated in the interview that H.D. is behind alot of the EPA regs effecting the motorcyle industry. He also stated that H.D. is trying to make it difficult for the small one off custom market builders to compete with them. Roger stated that his bikes already meet 2008 regs and many other shops do to. He also stated other areas where H.D. is involved with the EPA on laws that will effect the motorcycle industry. Can somebody tell me what or why H.D. is doing trying to hurt and hold back the industry that is blessing them? What am I missing?

CHUDFXD said it best, it's all about the duckets. The more money the states and Feds can steal from you the more they will. And big business is getting their cut too. I think I'll call my self the IRS and charge people a tax to look at my bike.

As far as Bourget's and any other fairly large custom builder...My question would be...How would their bikes from befor 2006 fare if subjected to EPA testing?
I seriously doubt that many, if any, of these custom manufacturers gave much consideration to emissions prior to this latest "rule change"
I don't know of ANY in this area that did, including HD dealers.
In fact some are still selling whatever they choose to as far as aftermarket parts.
Maybe Calif will eventually be forced into conformance; but I don't envision the rest of the country doing much in the near future.
For one thing the EPA doesn't have the manpower, nor does the DVM.

HD has been trying to make a transition - the VROD powerplant is evidence of that. I think they have the "grand scheme" in mind. They don't care if your Harley sounds like a Harley - they're banking that you'll still buy them. HD has also lost millions in the law enforcement division to BMW and KAW - there will be a liquid-cooled Police FLT in the future. Here in CA I haven't seen a Harley cop bike for a few years. HD will always sell bikes and aftermarket goodies, if they have to give up some of the performance market they will because they can make it up with aftermarket chrome, liquid cooled bikes, and offering bigger engine bikes in the future. Victory offers 100CI bikes stock and soon HD will be putting them on the floor to make up for the loss in revenue of Screaming Eagle and stage-1&2 stuff. Dealers here are beginning to tell customers no more stage-1's and slip-ons, etc. HD is a multinational, multimillion dollar company and they don't give a good fu*k about your ShovelHead...you're of no use to them. They won't return to the AMF days. I've spent a few hours on the phone with Screaming Eagle folks at the home base and I've heard some interesting stuff - in the future SE will be about bigger displacement within EPA guidelines ...and of course lots of goodies.
