Not much changing in the Mid-West that I know of. One city of approx. 40,000 has tightened up a little on loud pipes; but nothing else.
Don't know what the local dealer's attitude is toward all this; but a couple of small after market shops are doing business as usual.
Here too; it the same with the totally illegal cars, trucks, etc.
A lot of the trucks are running duals through the CAT with no mufflers at all; and the kids with their 4 cyl Hondas, Toyotas, and Cavaliers etc are mostly running the beer can mufflers.
The crotch rocket crowd is still running their usual variety of headers etc.

God I hate fuxking tuner cars - not the whining noise so much as the way they drive.

BTW, Frisco..that stock 07 96" HD doesn't sound bad at all. It's
tame for sure compared to the Big Radius I've been running lately, but it sounds nice. I finally went and test rode that Triumph RocketIII (140CI/2300CC) Sounds terrible - feels like a tractor on steroids. If you try one - make sure you point it in the direction you want to go first...and put a few inches on the ol' biceps first too...it'll rip your arms outta the sockets.

Here's a simple proposal in lieu of the complicated "thou shalt not change anything" EPA approach.

Since this is supposed to be about emissions and noise, why not simply test bikes annually and if they pass some stated, reasonable standard - then fine. Who should care whether changes have been made, so long as the bikes burn clean and don't make too much noise. Hell, many changes gain engine power by burning fuel more completely and efficiently and end up actually making the bikes run cleaner than stock.

Problem, JB, is that they'll nailour loud pipes to the wall and cite us. Meanwhile, they let all these tuner cars go by.
What about the trucks now? Jeezus - they have mufflers that are louder than our bikes and they get by. We're being targeted and that's all there is to it. Before, no one cared, but now bikes are all over and lots of dipsh*ts are reving their straight pipes through neighborhoods at 5am and 1am when mommy is trying to keep baby with cholic asleep. We're on the map. I used to run an old sporty with straight pipes that made all the neighbors look up from their lawnmowers and give me a wave. Those days are over. And guess what - they don't give a good fu*k about the sport bikes screaming and the tuner cars whining at 200 dec. - we're the ones that are targeted.
Solution..............
yeah right....
you can take a sportbike and tune it up to 180HP at the wheel and they'll ignore you - we're the ones they're after.

Suffolk County PD is now on patroll for LOUD bikes on the Long Island Expressway on Long Island NY. If you have any other pipes on your bike other than Screaming Eagle Slip On's they are writing you a ticket. A friend of mine got nailed last week, they are also looking at helmets to see if they are DOT. They got him for that too.

ABATE really needs to put the "loud pipes save lives" high up on their agenda. Around here the cops don't bother the HD riders with louder pipes to because the squids on their crotch-rockets are screaming up and down the streets
As far as the helmets, it never ceases to amaze me that people will spend as much, or more, money for a fake helmet just to think they're getting away with something.

Yeah, decibles...they have to be pushing higher than our cruisers - just the winding out decible over the thump and growl. I haven't seen anyone doing a front wheel stoppie on a Roadglide lately - seems they'd be focusing on these guys.

Don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but I've been strafed a couple times by these cowards. I was on the 91FW doing about the flow at 75mph and this R1 or something like it strafed me at about 100plus....of course they don't slow down to talk about it, but god help the next one that does it and stops for gas where I can see it.

Out here on Long Island, New York, rumor has it the cops have been setting up "motorcycle only" checkpoints on the LIE in the 60's exits. I hear they are ticketing all altered exhausts and non DOT helmets and whatever else they can find. I have been bringing my bike with drag pipes to the same shop for inspection since 1991 and this was the first time I was told they couldnt pass it with drag pipes. I was also told the cops were hanging out locally to the shop and checking bikes that just left the shop after an inspection to see if the shop was passing the bikes with drag pipes. I've known these guys a long time and I would have to believe this to be true. Of course, I was able to talk my way into an inspection with the pipes but still. Pure BS. I'm not sure its even legal for them to have "motorcycle only" checkpoints on the expressway. Seems to me to be selective enforcement. Botz

Botzman, You are 100% correct about the check points between exits 60 and 63 if I am not mistaken.Any bike that has any other exaust pipes other than stock pipes and screaming eagle slip ons are getting tickets. You could have Vance and Hines, Reinhardt's or any other pipes and you ARE getting a TICKET. As for the helmets they are giving away tickets as well. You have to detour around those exits when heading east. Stay away from there because it is NOT A RUMOR it is HAPPENING every weekend..
