Thumbs down New Denver Law

I don't understand how the new law in Denver is goign to work. As I understand it we can't run any exhaust other than the stock Harley one supplied on the bike when new.

If that's the case why don't we insist on equality and make all car and truck drivers have to remove the replacement mufflers and go back to stock. Can't imagine that would be too popular with the guys at Meinicke and the muffler shops.

Its all about the money. If the government can make a quick buck they will. I have a hard time thinking the average cop that stops you will know if they are stock or aftermarket pipes.

You think they are going to pay extra dough to teach the noise police what is stock and what is not?

Hell no. Thats cost and cost is no good. If its loud its not stock or modified stock and they will pull you over and ticket.

Course like all smart bikers you have kept your stock exhaust. Slap em on go to court and say I was harrased for being a biker. If they have no pictures of what you had when you were stopped..........For all they know... Besides most cops are not *ick Heads. Many have bikes. Use your head when you crack the throttle.

Its like hidding the Jack Daniels bottle when the boss walks in

Yes, good call JC, that's exactly why you keep the replaced parts,,, to get outa fix-it tickets...

When you say-"why don't we insist on.............." it implies that we just set on our asses and let em screw us,,,, OK, yes some do just that, but there are Bikers Rights Organizations that specialize in lobbying for OUR Rights, you might look into joining one and actually DO instead of asking why...

I my self am a member of the AMA and I can't see how they wont have some influnce on this issure. They protect our right to ride and you can almost count on this being a major concern of theirs.

The problem is only going to get worse because of the few who want to run straight pipes and make sure everyone knows it.
I would highly suggest that your join A.B.A.T.E. - AMA - or any other motorcycle rights group because it is coming and they(the law) will figure out a way to make money off off this. It is like the NTSA just recommended a national Helmet requirement law- so if you love to ride - get ready because they (government) are getting ready to come after us from several fronts - and being a minority (bikers) they will be able to jam this down our throats. Because by nature we are very independent and solitary.....

I just read that the one and only ticket issued to a motorcyclist in Denver for noise was dismissed due to a fundamental flaw: " Denver police aren't equipped with the $ 1000 noise monitors needed to make the charge stick", said Wade Eldridge, lawyer for the ticked biker. He went on to say that the city has an impossible burden to try to enforce this law. Then there was the 82 decibels at 25 feet. I think those big 4 door diesel pick-up trucks make more noise than that.

ah.. you missed it - the dismissed was from the old "noise" law

the REASON the laws are being changed to fine for not having a factory exhaust and muffler is BECAUSE they cant make the noise charge stick - they have to have a meter etc...

you see by changing the laws from "no more than X noise" to read "epa factory muffler" they completely obviate the need to have a meter. look at the pipe and muffler if it does not have a harley davidson epa compliance stamping - then its finable and no amount of wiggling will get you out of it. just go pay the d*&n fine. - the insidious part of this should be patently obvious - the epa or carb or whoever can troll the public record once per year or five - each and every ticket for "non factory muffler" is a instant near non - defensible 10k fine.

the muffler war is over - if you have any assets - run stock mufflers. or, well, never ever ever let your self get pulled over.

as for me i will stick with my street legal 4" mufflers with the "complies with yada yada" stamp on them its just not worth the risk.

note: since the factory head pipes are not stamped - you could probably get away with aftermarket head pipes as long as the muffler has the harley stamp on it and never get a ticket...

In MN there are cities I will not ride through or patronize because they threaten to ticket you. I guess if you want my $$$ it works better not to threaten tickets. I will not take the chance of being hassled and will not be visiting Denver anytime soon!!!

Over 26 years in the AMA. The little wife and I are itching to go to Colorado but we won't spend any money in Denver.
