Default Thoughts On X-Wedge

Now that the X-Wedge has been around for a little time, I am curious how people here think of the new generation S&S engine.

I've asked that same question numerous times with no response. I think it's a great design and if H.D. doesn't get the knotted rag out of their ass and make their own B.T. a better bike, we will see more people using them to build their own touring rigs. If I was going to have a big bike for riding 2-up or touring with alot of gear, I would use the X-Wedge engine and build my own before buying a new H.D. 96". Or I'd get a TC 88 and put the 95" kit in. But the design of the X-Wedge makes sense to me. A square engine would be fun.

Curious, I wonder do the "old school" guys consider you an outsider for running an S&S motor?? Think you'll get the usual "insecurity" from them?

On another note: There's much better made V-Twins on the market, I'd just as soon buy a Harley before S&S. Merch / Kendall to name a few.

I like that S&S went and did what needed doing - Innovating to meet standards and demands and not compromising.

Interesting post and thanks. I am curious why you'd buy a Harley before S&S, Merch, Kendall ones?

I am not passing judgement one way or the other, just curious. Also curious about how you'd score the V-Rod engine in this mix?

Buzz, For me the Revolution is a perfect power plant for the "street " . That kind of Hp, acceleration, reliability and smoothness are well beyond any engine mentioned above. With the right pipes it sounds mean as hell. It's attributes are many and the versatility is awesome. Everything "I" want or need for the "Street".
In regards to the S&S I simply would just prefer a Harley motor, I don't feel S&S is much better so why stray?
However If I were to stray ( you misinterpreted my last post) I feel other V-Twin manufacturers Like Merch and/or Kendall Johnson are heads and shoulders above the rest especially S&S, they have an inflated reputation.

Buzz regarding the V-Rod I have asked a lot of people in the industry why Harley has not built a sport touring bike out of this platform bike has not gone over as anticipated so why not go to a different side of the market factory has not built this style of machine since 92.I think some of us old FXRT riders would appreciate a model that would appeal to our style and riding requirements as there is nothing in the 08 line up.
As for the X-Wedge S&S has come up with a winner here,I'm thinking about a Chopper Guys FXR style frame that would fit a X-Wedge and putting FXRT bags fairing and tourpac on will see what the winter brings.

with tighter epa standards HD is backing itself in a corner and will eventually have to stop producing air cooled motors of current design. Once again S&S is ahead of the motor company. I wouldn't put it past HD to try to steel part of S&S's design. I don't think it would come as cheap as the softail frame.
