Um, in my experience with strokers,, if the motor is built by a GOOD and reputable builder and maintained correctly by YOU there will be absolutely no problem with any of the items in your question..
If the motor is not well built or maintained,,,, "my bike's in the shop" will be your catch phrase..
I personally will never get another factory motor.. Bought 2 factory turn-key S&S 113's and they both started comming apart at about 4000 miles..
I have not had longer than a 4.5" stroke.. The guys I listen to have Forgotten 10 times more than I'll ever learn and they agree with virtually all I've read,, that more than 4.5" stroke the longevity and reliabilty suffers..
If your gearing and cam choice and carb choice and jetting and exhaust, and timing (timing is very important with HC big inchers), you will be in awe of the smooth easy but explosive power, your pants will tighten and small beads of sweat will trickle down your loins to accompan,,,, Oh, ah, I got ah, whew.. Ok I meant to say that slow, fast, parking lots, rain, starting, vibration, etc. etc. it's all better than stock, um, speeding tickets too if yer not careful..
Isn't short-shifting just another word for lugging,, strokers don't like lugging.. If you're worried about noise just go slow.. (hint-- mufflers = more power)
I'm currenty running a 93" rigid kick-only shovel I built and hammered for close to 200,000 miles before rebuilding the bottom-end in "04, and a terriffic rigid kick-only 120" EVO I built in "02,, the sickles not the motors.. Do as much of your own breaking and fixing, maintenace and building as possible cuz you are the best friend and mechanic your sickle has, Yeah baby..!!
