Question baking bearing plates

i have heard you can install cam bearings in the cam bearing plate out of a twin cam by freezing the bearing and cams and heating the cam bearing plate in the oven. but would any one know at what temperature the plate needs to be heated to?

Check out this site, www.harleyhog.co.uk/1550/bbonline.htm click on 1550 BIG BORE. He talks about heating & cooling on page 3. I have also heard of this practice. Good luck.

I havent done it with a harley but I do a lot of dirt bike motors and find it works real well with alum, cases. Just freeze bearing and use heat gun on case it doesnt have to be that hot.

use glove's and be sure to get it done fast as the temp's equallize fast locking parts together, I have use'd this method with machinery bearing's many time's without any problems as long as you are sure to quickly place the bearing exactly were you want it.MR.MF
