Wanted to know an honest opinion about wimmer velocity stacks supershorty with 80 mesh filter. How bad does it destroy your engine and how soon? I get different answers from the company and mechanics.

You'll get lotsa diff opinions on this but perhaps not many first-hand answers..

For ManY years I ran a Super B with an S&S velosity stack with only a fruit strainer that I had to only slightly bend and coax to fit totally over the mouth of the stack and fastened it with strips of old bicycle tire inner tube cut into kinda like big rubber-bands.. Of course I had to fashion a custom carb support too..
This was back in the 80's when we still had fairly good gas,, well, I had to run (trying to remember exactly) 2 sizes larger intermediate jet?? maybe only 1 size???? and I think 2 sizes larger main jet,, and oh yeah,, I got into that main jet alot baby..
My point--- I got very good performance outa the stack and NOT the motor (upper-end) destruction that I was lead to believe would happen.. If there was some, ah well, I didn't notice it.. Many years..!!
The fruit strainer's holes (I still have it but too lazy to find it) are about perhaps a 32nd of an inch, i.e. small enough to keep birds, rocks and kittens out of the intake but you know, not good in high dusty areas.. At that time I lived in the Bay area, not too dusty compared to here in the east Phoenix Valley where the dust is often choaking.. I'll bet that 80 mesh filter is alot smaller than that fruit strainer..
This is my experience with velosity stacks, yours, if you get the Wimmer, may be much diff..
Often, first-hand knowledge requires that you must experiment..

Default Velocity stack

Never used a Wimmer so can`t be of much help. Used open velocity stacks on several bikes over the years with no real damage. With open exhaust they can add to a lean condition. My flattrack bikes used a velocity stack with a green foam filter. Also used nylon stockings to keep small animals out.
Many years ago:
Bought a Triumph without keys and no air filter. Covered the carb with nylon stocking and hot wired the bike to go for a ride on the beach. Got sand stuck in the slide and couldn`t shut down. Beach Patrol got hysterical watching me try to pull plug wire off just before I went down.

To be old and wise you don`t have to be young and stupid first.

Ha, Wright--

That sounds a bit like what we used to do in the Santa Cruz area before the Enviromental Nazis stopped us from having a little fun on the beaches there..

The Boardwalk, sickles, sand, broads, booze and er, uh,,,, Geeeze life was good then.. Great memories..
Yeah, still is...!

Default Beach bikes

Mine was Va Beach. Riding strictly prohibited. Could get to the edge of the water and really let it out. Had to get through loose sand to get there. If I could make it to the pier their Jeep couldn`t get through an I was on my way to Carolina. They would block your path and force you into the loose stuff. Got real good doing U turns. Learned to run an air filter. Man the sand could eat up chains and sprockets. Spent all my money on sickles, parts, and beer. The rest I just wasted.

No wife no kids no mortgage.

Yeah good memories.

Most of the 60s I don`t remember.
