Default Strokers?

Back in the day all the bikers were into stroker engines for more power. But most of the strokers just didn't last very long before needing a rebuild.

Don't hear so much about stroker kits any more. Why is that?

I think back in the day, putting a stroker together was easier to do than bigger pistons. I don't know anything about strokers but they have always intrigued me. More power for sure at the price of more heat. I prefer going the other way and have more rpms to play with. Torque is what the stroker is all about.

Default Strokers

Hi,47

Actually there are a lot of strokers kits out there..and,a lot of guys are utilizing them. There are some pros and cons to them, though. And,the best source of information on them that I've ever come across is in the bible of MC tech stuff..AIM..if you have and/or can get your hands on the March '04 issue. Yeah, and,I expect you'll take my word on the above SOURCE after my having read the post you made today about AIMs tech-articles that I could'nt agree more with...good call !!!

Meanwhile..in case you were'nt (?) aware..stroking VS boring is how the MoCo brought the 88" engines to 96"..allowing them to sell the same bore kits and bring the 96" up to 103" these days.

The torque is in the longer stroke..

Stroker kits are available in every catalog, S&S is prob the biggest supplier/maker..
Strokers are all around us and lasting pretty darn long now.. I've never had longer than 4.5" stroke cuz supposedly the longevity starts dropping swiftly after 4.5".. I have no experience with longer though, as stated..

I also was aware of the poor longevity of the "stroker kits" installed by alota guys I knew back "then".. I think it was cuz many of them shoulda been prohibited from touching tools..

All my big motors are stroked and bored, (that's how you get the big inches) and the extra heat is very manageable even in this Phoenix Valley summer heat, no big deal.. Correct tuning and oil coolers..

hadnt1550--- you and me bud,, let em catch us..

Hi Guys

This is just a quick note to point out to those of you who've read my earlier post here that it has been edited somewhat (just a word here and there) because it seemed (as written) to read a little on the negative side of stroking an engine...and,I just did'nt want to leave that impression on anyone here...or future readers of it...in a message only meant to furnish a source of information on the subject for those interested/curious.

I feel better about that now
Ken
