Hey folks, I'm going to submit my '00 Night Train (TC-B) to experimentation. I'll be the guinea pig and let everyone know how it all goes. Like a lot of others here, I too ignorantly gave in to the allure of the 95" kit before knowing that that was only one part of the much larger picture. Here's what I have planned:

S&S gear drive, S&S cams (exact will depend on my compression ratio which I need to get confirmed. I think it's 10:1!), new cam support plate bearings and any other bearings (to rid myself of the problematic stocks), roller or hydraulic lifters (need to talk to the local wrench), I think I'll keep the stock push rods, new roller rockers, after market springs (higher tension), SE heads, and of course a Baker 6-sp tranny! Can't wait for that one.

Anyway, this should all be done in the next couple months. I'll report back on the noise of the gears. Personally, I already can put up with 700 miles in the saddle in a day, so I don't think the ears will ring much more! I live in Italy, and there are Ducati's all over the place. You want to hear a rackety engine, there you go! I think it's the dry clutch, but very annoying, very distinct I don't think these cam gears can be worse! No noise regulations here.

Mark, if you're going to go thru that much work I'd say install the Screamin Eagle pushrods. It'll be a better build.

Well, I bit the bullet and went for it. Got the last of my engine mods done, and just picked it up last night. Running much better!
Here's the package: Screamin' Eagle stage 1 breather, 1550 stage 2 kit, Mikuni 42 carb, S&S 510G greared cams, V&H straight shots pipes, rejetted & Dyno tuned. Everything else is stock.
The bike sounds great, runs great, good performance, nice power availability when I crack the throttle, good sound, should be reliable for the long haul.
One last question for my more experienced brethren:
I had the dealer Dyno the bike back when it had just the stage 1 breather, 1550, V&H. Got 64 HP / 87 TQ.
I had the independent shop tune it up after the carb & cams were bolted on. They also re-jetted and tuned it. Their Dyno readings were 56 HP / 74 TQ.
My question: Shouldn't I have gained rather than lost in both HP & TQ with this setup? Is someone's Dyno way the heck off? The indie shop told me that most places set their Dynos at +15% to account for "slack" in the system, and that theirs was a direct and therefore more accurate, true reading. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Something is'nt right there man.You should be pulling around 80-85hp and 90+ torque.I'm new on this site soI'll tell you my experience.I'm just an average guy with a decent set of tools and a good mechanic friend.I just put a 95" kit,203 cams, and se ignition on my bike.Tweaked the stock carb with a 88 sportster needle and this thing screams now.Total parts cost was 850 even.I gave my wrench buddy 2 bills for his "wisdom".I looked at buying the tools to do my own camsand it was going to be a couple hundred bucks. So I went to my local bike shop to give this guy some business and he quotes me 700 for the gear drive cams and 9 yes I said 9 hours of labor at 55 an hour.I'm pretty confident that I could do it faster than that with the right tools. So I called around to some local dealerships and found one that would swap out my cams for 40 bucks.I took my cams and installation kit to them along with the cam plate I just removed and they swapped them out and put in new tensioners, front and back, for 100 even.I was pretty happy with that. However with power comes lessened reliability. Now when my bike is real hot it backfires when I try to start it, but only when hot.So I'm thinking compression releases.Any suggestions? My compression is only 9:4 to 1 but I have no other ideas.
