Default Da Shakes

Don't know if some of you guys saw my posting on selling my scooter (softail deluxe) and now in the process of buying a new 2008 Street Glide.

I test drove street glide and was surprised on the amount of shaking as I came to a stop. Initially I thought I was in the wrong gear.

The salesman told me its because of the rubber mounted engine. Really? If that's the case, any recommendation on a fix?

Hey Fat

Sounds like Used Car Salesman talk if I ever heard it..
This is a Brand New sickle and it shakes that bad..?? Whoa..!!
As far as a fix,, they are the ones that oughta have a fix in mind,,, BUT, I bet they will keep telling you there is No prob..

Tell ya what-- go to another HD store and test drive an identical unit,, maybe it'll shake as much, maybe not, then you'll have a better idea..

In my experience---
I put a 127" in Babys '86 rubbermount sickle and there's virtually Zero shake at any time..
There was No shake with the deep-breathing 80" I took out..

Sooo, I wonder what is diff and possibly bad with the New rubbermount units..

Frisco-

Thanks for the suggestion. I will certainly visit a different dealer.

Default 08 shakes

Hey 99,

Frisco has the best idea. I did some work on an 08 last month (pipes,PC)
and the only shake was when you hold the front brake at idle. Have found that to be normal on rubber mount bikes.

Sounds like another dealer trained at P.T. Barnum Harley. Let`s see:
1. You are the first person to complain.
2. They all do that, it is perfectly normal.
3. Just ride it. It will stop after break in.
4. What shake ?

Find another dealer.

The Soft-Tail has the 96 inch “B“ motor which is counter balanced. The “B” motor runs very smooth and is rigidly mounted in the Soft-Tail frame. The 96 inch motor in the Street Glide is not counter balanced and is rubber mounted. The Street Glide does shake more. You can see the motor move in the frame as well as feel the shaking more in the handlebars. I don’t know why they didn’t just use the “B” motor in all their models as it is a smoother motor.

the shaking on the street glide is only at idle. after that it is dead smooth where the vibes on the b motor grow with the rpms.

My 06 Street Glide developed a shake with low mileage (not sure of the miles, less than 5000), it was a bad motor mount.

Fat99, the Deluxe has a B-motor with counter balancing built in and is mounted directly to the frame, no rubber mounts, so the bike doesn't shake at idle, not appreciably anyway. The rubber mount motors do not have the counterbalance systems and normally do shake during idle, hence the rubber motor mounts. Perhaps yours is shaking more than expected, but going from the Deluxe to the SG, there is going to be a noticeable difference.
