Default lightened flywheels

I would like to hear from anyone that has run lightened flywheels on a Big twin. I am considering it on my 03 Superglide.

Lighter wheels have less rotating mass so they will spin up faster but they have less enertia and may give you alittle bucking at slower speeds..
Also, you must be a tad more careful taking off from the light or with a load cuz you can kill the motor easier..
You may have to increase idle speed also because of less mass..
Good for RPM's..
This is old knowledge and can probably be looked up for more info than I can give..

My 93" shovel wheels are lightened and it R's fast..

Have a ball..

Hi Trex,
I have lightened and bevelled flywheels on my old Evo that were part of the complete performance package in 1989. It runs strong and revs fast but unless you are in the bottom end of your engine for other reasons your money might be better spent on easier to get at components.
No regrets with my flywheels as they are, on the old, or the new scooter.

Hi Trex

No regrets.. An easy hole-shooter..

But yeah, I was also wondering if you were going to just do that or do it while doing other stuff..

Ya might even think about simply buying an after-market set trued, balanced and lightened when you do go into it..
You know, Ultima, Truett & Osborn etc etc,, just a sugg..

And never hesitate to explore the cost of a New "Hot" Motor instead of heavy Mods to your current motor cuz the money spent on Big Mods might be close to a new motor,,, sooo, that way you'll have 2 motors for maybe just a wee more than Big Mods to 1 motor.. Capich..??

Have a ball

Yea Frisco, sounds like somethin to think about, hadn't considered that. What got me thinkin about it is the sound of a bike that goes down my street almost every Friday night late, wakes me up but doesn't piss me off because it sounds so good.Sounds like big inch's from bore and stock stroke and light flywheels because it revs so quick.

Hi Frisco, I wonder how many people wind up unpleasantly surprised when the bill comes for their heavy mods, when they in fact thought they were not even going as deep as they wanted? I knew what I was in for but of course there are always the little "extras" that were missed in the quote. Like I have stated previously I'm happy the way things turned out but I'm still only 96", and for only a FEW dollars more.....................second motor and big inches.

Yea, it's 88in. I'm not unhappy with it,in fact I love the way it runs. It's stock except for Sporty shocks on the back, solo seat, passenger pegs removed, the one side peg bracket is pretty heavy believe it or not, Kromeworks stock looking mufflers on stock header pipes, Ness carb alum backing plate, rejetted, yost power tube, and Superbrace on the forks. It's snappy and a lot of fun and friends ask why it is so fast. I think it's just the way I use the throttle. But as much as I like it I keep thinking of how much fun it would be having stock stroke, big bore, light flywheels, head work, roller rockers, geardrive etc.
