The $4,400.00 included head work; My Baisley Street heads with roller rockers will be about 1,200.00 or so. If I were to buy a new engine I'd go S&S and those are more than $4,400.00 I think.

I overlooked part 1 in my May issue and read part 2 in this month's issue, now I'll have to go back and read part 1. What caught my eye is the statement on the cover of the mag when it mentioned over 100 horses for less than 4k. In another post I mentioned stroking my scoot wanting to achieve over 100 horses. I find this very interesting and price association is a great benny. I know for me I don't have tons of cash at my disposal so if the price, parts, work, etc is mentioned then knowing what I need and where/what to start saving for helps a lot.

Frisco (as always) has a valid point, though.

mgm- You're probably correct about a new S&S costing more than $4,400, but if a person is willing to put in a little time and research I'm sure there are deals out there that one could get on a motor in the neighborhood of this price.

Well, i guess I will report my 103 build here when she is done (crossing fingers) by end of this month. Trouble is, when bike is at the indy, it is Sooooooo easy to have the guy do extra stuff that you really could wait on... LOL

I liked the article series, but it does advocate using the basic HD kit and some additional work. I have seen other options out there to increase the basic 96 In engine to 107/113 and higher I think, any thoughts on one of those builds with the same pricing/performance information. There are so many ways to spend dollars on your bike, but is useful to see comparisons.

Gosh, spend about the same amount and end with TWO motors..

No Brainer..
Hello frisco, I've read in other posts you have an Ultima, what other big engines do you have or like? As you say, engine work that is any good is always pricey, though sometimes not economical.

I did the same upgrade mentioned in the article but I did it on a TC88. Before I did the work I was dyno'd and had 75HP. After the work was done and I got through the breakin period I had it dyno'd again. I ended up with 105HP and torque was 101. The other thing I noticed is that I am getting 50 MPG now on fuel. It is definitely worth the money.
