Default Want more low end torque

I have read some articles in AIM in the past mentioning a gearing change in the front sprocket of the primary case - something like going to 31 or 32 teeth. Wondering if someone remembers the details, or article(s) for that mod? Thinking of going in that direction would appreciate any help. Think Tom mentioned this a few times in his articles...

Hi Rod
You might tell us what sickle you're running..

I often change the Final Drive gearing in 2 of my sickles by exchanging a Fewer or Higher Tooth motor pulley but that's cuz I run the kinda belt drive that allows that.. Yes,, that is in the Primary Drive that you spoke of..

When you mention 31 or 32 teeth it sounds more like you're referring to a Tranny Pulley..
I believe most of them (stock) are 32 T..
Going to a 31 T (or fewer teeth) from a 32 T,, will Lower the Final Drive ratio and you'll get More pulling torque cuz it'll be a Lower gear ratio..

Lowering the Final Drive will effectively feel like there is More Over-All torque in ALL the gears..
You will Wind-out each gear faster and will lose some of your Top-End speed (but you'll get there quicker) and gas mileage..

The last time I lowered one sickle 4.3% (from 3.12 to 3.26) I lost about 6 % of my mileage.. That's because EACH gear is lowered and the loss of mileage kinda "stacks" up..
