Ok,Blue/others:
Here's one possible scenerio...call dealer for details (require'mts, restrictions, etc.) fly THERE free (one way ticket) buy at THEIR price (plus whatever) OR pay for your own trip BACK home, empty handed. I don't know that's thee case here..but,after working with car, truck & motorcycle dealers (advertising) for years, I'm fairly certain that THEIR cost IS coming out or YOUR pocket, somewhere along the line...rarely "sumthin' for nuthin". Hell..might be just something to get you ON the line/phone,for that matter. They're "stealers" remember !?!

I will check and see if the promo is still on. Just before bike week they would do the deal by phone and fly you down and pick you up at the airport. The only deal I saw go down was a 2008 RK for 18500.00. and they sold one like it to a local a week later for 16500. Evo is right , there is no free lunch and Rossmeyer is not stupid but they are hurting. All of the central Fla dealer are in pain. Destination Daytona is a mega complex developed by Rossmeyer when times were good. The overhead for this place is terrific. I heard 150 bikes per month to break even. When they first opened the average was 250 per month(not verifiable). There are bars ,a motel, condos, Arlen Ness, Trike Store, J&P Store, Triumph/Ducati dealer, and assorted vendors. Kinda year round bike week withou the crowd except for Thursday night party.
I am riding over tomorrow for parts and will let you know. It really is supply and d emand. On bikes they have a lot of the average is 1500.0 below MSRP. If a model is selling well ther is no discount but a long way from the 3k over MSRP days.
Hey Defender,
Two local dealers here have plenty of everything. Email Destination Daytona Harley and they will buy your plane ticket. Guess it depends on wher you are.
I think Barnett Harley Davidson in Houston does this as well. It looks to me like they make their money back on the price of the bike, which from what I have seen is higher than my local stealer would charge for it. But as you mentioned, the selection is a helluva lot better and you don't have to wait for the bike you want to come in.

Reason: additional info
From what I've seen during bike week, it looks like some deals can be had at Destination, I will plan my next purchase around that time. Fortunatley, I only live about two hours away and can ride over there anytime!
I called Barnett when I was looking for my used Sporty and they couldn't touch the prices I was given from the 3 shops I can get to in easy driving distance (3, 40, and 70 miles away). I paid about $400 below the NADA retail price, too; and it was the salesman that showed me the book. My bike also had a few extra goodies on it that would have added $$$ but wasn't counted in.
A guy came into work and offered his wife's late-1990-something 883 for $2400, and it was pretty loaded, too.
Personally, I think a lot of people are letting their Sporties go way too cheap.
