| | ignition relocation I purchased a larger tank for my wifes 1200, Came with a relocation kit for the ignition and coil, but no instructions. Has anyone done this? I've read it goes next to choke mount but can't find any more detail. Does anyone have a picture? I hear they are worth a thousand words. |

| | pics Hard to see in pic but there is a saddle shaped bracket with a series of holes. One set is obviously for the new tank as it is longer than the stocker, if one set reattaches the bracket to the frame another set lines up for the coil bracket but puts it rather close to the cylinder head. Thanks for the reply. |

| | Rpals- That is the new relocation kit currently on the bike? Man thats too close for my comfort to the top of the Rocker Cover.
Who told you it should be located next to the choke? I wonder....Did you try the tank on with the old bracket? It may have fit. Lemme ponder a bit.
The rest of you feel free to jump in.......Thanks for the pic. However I think my eyes are going bad. Need some more light on it. |

| | Nope definitely won't fit with that style tank. You will have to relocate your ignition and coil to the side of your motor on the left side. |

| | | Engine heat cooks the coil. You have the relocation bracket right where it's supposed to fit, but it places the coil waaaaay too close to the rockerbox. You should be able to drill new bolt holes where the bracket mounts up to the frame. A proper kit should not need to be modified to fit, but......

| | here's how I did it I did the deed, took the welcome to the custom world message to heart, so if anyone else is following . . . First step, throw away the factory bracket. I took two piece's of 3/4 angle cut it 2" long, then cut one side of the angle partially off leaving a 3/4" by 3/4" tab and a 1 1/4" tang on the other side. I drilled a hole in the smaller tab for a 1/4" bolt on the coil. Make one left and one right side bracket. Drill the long tab for 5/16" bolt, this will attach to the new tank bracket. Bend the the longer tab in a dogleg fashion so it lines up with the 1/4" hole for the coil. These new brackets will attach to the set of holes behind bolt attaching the bracket to the frame on the inside of the bracket. place the new bracket so the small tab is toward the front. Now attach the coil on the new bracket so it is in the front of your new brackets, the opposite of the way the factory mounted it. This puts your coil in the same position the factory did. The ignition switch is now on a chrome "L" bracket on the opposite side of the bike it was at the factory. |

| | | Kinda hard to follow the description there, but I bet it all makes sense when you see it.
If it's happy and you're happy, then job well done! |
