Default Rubber-Mounted Sporties

Don't get me wrong, I love the new Sporsters. I've been thinking about a lighter-weight bike, and the Nightster scores a lot of points with me. But I still have a soft spot in my heart for the older Sporties. I've been wondering...the rubber-mounted engines came along in '04, but has anyone come up with a kit to retro-fit some kind of rubber-mounting system for the pre-'04 bikes?

I hope this is not a dumb question, but like I said, I've been wondering...

No dumb questions, the rubber mounted Sportys have a different frame.
The solid mount bikes used the engine and trans to stiffen the frame. This saved weight, the new bikes are fifty pounds heaver because the frame had to be stiffened.
So no, no kit.
The rubber mounted bikes also do not have a trap door on the transmission, so a better question, is can the old motors be put in the new frame and rubber mounted.
Don’t know that one.

Default Rubber mount

Hey guys,

The old motor will not fit the new frame. With enough fabrication anything can be made to fit anything. I once saw a 348 Chevy in a Renault Dauphine.

Before the 04 came out Trevor Deely the Canadian Hd distributor used Dyna and FXR parts to rubber mount the older model. Really got my attention since I like lighter bikes. Another option would be a Daytec rubber mount frame with the old engine. If money is no object pick up an 04-06 (carb bike) and buy all the Storz Performance stuff. Get rid of 100lbs then add a few Buell parts. Might be faster than my Vincent.

Default Sportie /Vincent

Hey HC,

I still have it. It`s a 1952 Rapide. I have owned it since 1974. The cases are black enamel and it has quite a few Black Shadow parts. It didn`t meet reserve at auction so it is on its way back home. I will NOT take it to Maxton.
In sold a set of Black Lightning heads at the Denver rally recently.

I used to ride and '03 sporty... I don't think they needed to be rubber mounted. Sure, they vibrate a little... but it's a sportster. It's managable.

John 1:14

It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the LORD.

Default Rubber mount

Hey guys,

Rode a 66CH from Norfolk to Daytona in 1974. That was before I discovered pain. Two and a half day ride. No wife, no kid, no mortgage. Just a memory.

Default cow pasture ?

Hey Steve,

In the last 20yrs have watched the orange groves turn into housing. Even the backroads take 20min to get to them. Let me know the next time you are in the area.
