NEW HARLEY-DAVIDSON IRON 883™ MODEL IS DRESSED FOR A DARK RIDE
New Sportster Motorcycle Takes the Stage with Aggressive Attitude

MILWAUKEE (January 26, 2009) – With a defiant attitude embracing the pure essence of riding, the new Iron 883 model is the latest Harley-Davidson Dark Custom motorcycle.

Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycles like the Iron 883 have stood against the grain since their introduction in 1957, when the modern rebel culture was being bred from restless veterans and hot rod pioneers. Sportster motorcycles became the starting point for many legendary choppers of the 1960s, while also getting pumped up for championship dirt racing and dare devil stunt riding in the 1970s.

The Iron 883 model continues that rebellious tradition with responsive handling, smooth clutch effort and durable carbon reinforced drive belt while pushing the styling of motorcycling minimalism to the edge. Decked in black from fender-to-fender, the new Harley-Davidson Iron 883 motorcycle brings the beat of an 883 Evolution® engine backed up by a combo of gritty, old-school garage features like front fork gaiters, drag style handlebar and side-mount license plate holder. A ticket to ride the Iron 883 starts at just $7,899 MSRP, leaving plenty of freedom for customization.

The black powder-coated 883cc Evolution powertrain with black covers takes the Iron 883 deep into the heart of darkness. With Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) and performance tuning with a broad torque curve, the Iron 883 delivers plenty of power for the city scene. The pipes on the straight cut shorty dual exhaust flow the distinctive Harley-Davidson V-Twin sound.

As the latest of the Harley-Davidson Dark Custom motorcycles, the Iron 883 is stripped down and ripe for custom creativity. Dark Custom motorcycle riders have the youngest average age for Harley-Davidson buyers. Check out more on the Iron 883 Dark Custom at New Harley Sportster.

Looks ALMOST exactly like a Nightster. In some respects it looks better. I dig the black powdercoat vice the gray. Especially with that Brilliant Silver paint job.

Wondering why they gave it a new name. I guess they kinda didn't... the XL883N

All-in-all... I think it's a great idea! The MoCo's 883 line-up has gotten a little stale since the departure of the R. I think that a lot of folks will find this a bad-assed 883 option. Good way to lure in the folks that can't afford the 1200 version. Under $8k is a great price for this scoot. I think I may just put it on my wish list.

John 1:14

It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the LORD.

I was in Nashville this weekend and visted Bost H-D. They had the new 883 Iron on the floor and I got to check it over really good. I actually like it better than the Nightster. It's pretty much all blacked out and on the 883 the seat goes all the way to the nose of the gas tank instead of having a gap like the Nightster does. Overall it is a really sharp looking little bike and I bet it would be a fun ride. I wouldn't mind having one. The had it listed for $8,199.00 plus tax... Clif

It's a great tactic to have an entry level Sporty priced to draw in new customers as the XLX did me in '85. Entry level is not meant to dis the model at all, still riding mine and no way I'm selling it.
The uninformed who speak ill of Sporties just don't know what they're talking about. For twisties and easy around town maneuvering they can't be beat.

I've never talked down about Sportsters, having owned more than a few,but your statement above is laughable! No way a stock 883 can even keep my big bagger taillight in view, let alone go around me!!!

dcrowley.... First, welcome to the forum.
Now, I wouldn't ever disrespect a sportster. I've owned a few and my wife now rides a 1200 custom. Personally, I really like sporties.
As far as the "mini" bike comment, that was in reference to the bikes height.
The seat was just below my knee, very low to the ground.
