Default Iron 883

What a nice looking bike! But why just 883? Don't get me wrong- I love my 883, but it seems like they went through all that time with design and the thing just says "wicked cool" and "wicked fast" just sitting at the curb. But only 883? Good way for the stealers to drum up their machining business getting them bored out.

The IRON rocks! its the meaning of cool! but mods must be made! I just bought a set of V&H shortshots at the swapmeet. Will i hurt my bike if i just bolt them on or do i need the stage1 remapping from the shop? I havent noticed any change at all. Except the obvious they sound so much better. Stock pipes make me feel like im riding a pissed off sewing machine! the baffles on the new ones are open at both ends. does this sound right or has someone modified these baffels to make them louder? cuz there f**ckin loud! i dont want to ride it if i could do any damage

You probably won't notice any difference with just the pipes. If you do the stage 1 with the pipes you'll surely notice a difference, but you will need a download to do it correctly!

I might be wrong on this, but here goes. The V/H pipes are not slip-ons,correct? They are a complete set up to the cylinders. If there are 02 sensors on your old pipes and your new pipes, the sensor should compensate for the change in backpressure. If you change to a higher flow a/f, thats when you need to re-map so you don't lean out the motor. Hopefully one of really smart guys on the site jump in and confirm this. Just trying to help!

Because the "Nightster" is basically the same bike & it's a 1200.

Hey Majic

You could always revert to the old way of checking your air/fuel ratio with a plug check. Should be a light tan or some version of that. Also if you're not getting backfiring on decel and no pinging you're probably not hurting anything. Slight backfiring isn't a big deal. For best performance and cool running, as has already been said here, you will need either remapping or a plug in modifier. Personally I'd want to cool things down from the EPA mandated stock setting ASAP just for my own peace of mind.

plugs look good and bike seems to be running perfect at some point im putting on the Vance and Hines big air kit so at that point i will get the remapping done. For now funds are alittle tight just buying the bike and then the pipes so i will do more mods in the fall or over the winter.
