Hey everyone, sorry I havn't been on in a long time but I am always workin or riding. I currently have 6,200 miles on my sporty and lovin every minute of it. I now work at a motorcycle shop called Renegade Clacssics here in Houston. And I meet all kinds of riders, Im really lovin it right now. Well I work as the parts manager here and I was lookin through all of our books and I have yeat to find a decent exhaust system or slip ons for the 85-03 years. The ones I have found were V&H Straightshots for 445.00 but they are a whole system. Then the SE II's slip ons for 200.00. Does anyone here know of anymore systems or slip on's that will fit a 883 Hugger for under 300.00? Well ride Safe and I will try to keep you'll posted on my miles, trips, and this Exhaust system problem. Thanks Derrick
These are one piece pipes that have the muffler section formed as part of the head pipe. The muffler part is the same size as the HD slipons I have on my 96 Sporty now. I had a set of these on my 883, the chrome was very good quality and they sounded good.
They also sell slipons that look very much like the HD's. Also, Cycle Shack pipes are American made.
Cat's sugg is prob very good but it's still a "one piece" system and that means replacing the entire system also..
If you ever get around to researching exhaust and exhaust systems, one thing you discover is that most "headers" of the correct length and OD,, are basically the same,, no magic to them, they just exit the exhaust to the Muffs and then out>>>>>>..
Slip-on Muffs could possibly be your best bet since it's generally the Muffs that determine the noise and flow efficiency of the system..
Look into the CycleShack slip-ons, Dyna, KromeWerks, etc etc etc..
Outa those 3 the KW's are my fav..
There really is No diff tween Sporty Muffs and "big twin" as they all do basically the same job,, Just be sure the mounting brackets match up..
Heck,,,, the shop you're at prob has a group a "take offs" that you can experiment with,,, that's what I would do in your position..
I edited again, heck I just don't to rain on a parade..

thanks cat and frisco for your input. I have seen those cycle shack pipes in Bikers Choice for a decent price but a friend of mine had bought a full system with turn outs for a 1975 Shovelhead Lowrider and tuned the carb for them. In less than 2 months they blued past the heat shields, they had heat shields kinda like the street glides have where they stop at the 90 going from the front cylinder. He paid like 480.00 for them with the shields and they blued like crazy and I dont want that to happen to me. And Frisco the shop im at only sells parts, we dont install them. I tried to talk the boss into making a little side shop but he says the ins. will more then double by doing it so he says its really not worth it.
The Bluing is often caused by improper tuning and/or maintenance, such as intake leaks,, allowing the gasses to get too hot..
Correct Timing and A/F will assist with keeping the gasses from being tooooo hot while also giving best perf..
I suppose It is possible that some applications of Chrome are more resistant to bluing from Manuf. to Manuf. but I am un-aware of it..
CycleShack has been around for ever and I bet their Chroming process is second to none..
My point------ if a guy gets bluing on XYZ headers/system he prob woulda gotten it on ABC headers/system as well..
Also,, I still believe your best bet is good hi-flow slip-ons,, your decision..
Have a ball

Well thats what I was thinking too. Since I already have a balancing tube commin off cylinder 1 to cylinder 2 for better perf. I shot a email to Rush asking about there baloney cut slip ons for 300.00 and they said that they will fit my bike. Well should I get the 1 and 3/4" baffles or the 2 and 1/4 baffles? I had a guy at work telling me that Harley recommends 2 and 1/4 baffles but that was on a 2008 Street Glide. And Frisco I found out that Cycle Shack only has a 180 degree heat shield when V&H and all the other top brands have a 220 degree heat shield so thats why you notice the blueing of the pipes more than the other brands.
The 1.75" baffles are for use in Straight Pipes but you plan on buying muffs------OK,, what am I missing.?
Don't the muffs you plan on buying come with their own baffles.?
If yes and they're removable baffles,, you can experiment with diff baffles as time goes on..

Rush offers their mufflers with a choice of 1.5", 1.75", 2" and 2.25" baffles.
I have the 2" and my bike pops. It's pretty open and pretty loud.
Duff, If I was you, I would call the Harley dealer instead of relying on "some guy" at work telling you what Harley recommends. It'll only take a minute. If I remember when Harley tried to sell me some Rush mufflers, they were offering the 1.75".
If you are talking about a heat shield, you are talking about replacing the header pipes also. I really don't see why you need to do that but, that's justs me.

TBONE, I called Harley about 10 mins ago and talked to the main Mechanic and he told me to get the 2 and 1/4" baffles. And the reason we were talking about heat shields was I told Frisco that cycle Shack pipes only come with a 180 degree coverage heatshield when V&H and all the other major brands offer the 220 degree coverage heatshields. So you dont see any blueing on the pipes.
