As a former sportbike rider I will tell you this. I wave at all bikers. When I was on a sportbike the HD guys never waved back. Eventually you just stop waving at them and only wave at other sportbikes. Kind of a ruff assetment you are making Rick, when you never been in their shoes.

Oh but I have been in their shoes. How kind of you to assume that I haven't. I've ridden everything from Italian bikes to metrics and I always wave too. Sometimes they wave back and sometimes they don't, but the majority of those that don't are on race bikes. Too bad that ruffles your feathers but it is my observation. Care to make any more unproven generalzations or assumptions?

Then I stand corrected aimed towards you. You say italian and metric, you mean sportbikes aka crotch rockets? Further, will you say that when on a sportbike, you waved at all and found the most majority of cruiser riders waved back?

What do you mean race bikes? no headlight, taped, safety wired? And what bike are you on when no wave occurs?

I'm saying, I rode a rocket for 6 years, did racing, stunting, etc... cruisers generally don't wave back so all my buds and I just quit waving at all at them.

I now make it a point to wave at sportbikes to help reconnect the share passion gap.

Everyone's opinion is from their point of view. If you ride a sport bike, chances are you will get more waves from like riders. If on a cruiser you are likely to get a majority of waves from those folks. But my experience, Cross Bones, since I ride a cruiser type, I would expect more waves from cruisers but it's about 50/50. Maybe I'm way off, but it seems among those cruisers the HD guys don't wave as much - maybe too busy posing, or they are newbies and don't know to wave or they just plain look down their noses. Of course these are generalizations, they are just opinions from one point of view.

Yup!

I was driving the wife's old 67 chevy truck a while back and another guy in a 67 chevy waved at me.....
I thought it was kinda funny, but it dont hurt to wave back.

On the bike, I get tired of waving during the summer when there are 8 million bikes on the road. When the wife is on back, she waves for the both of us.

My Italian bike was a Vespa Motor Scooter so I had to deal with the stigma of that. My metric was a Honda Rebel250 so I had to hear a lot of crap about riding a rice ride while I was a member of ABATE (when it stood for A Brotherhood Against Totaliarian Enactment). So I know what you are talking ab out. I am 50 years old and have ridden with different brands and different riders who have differing opinions of what a biker is. No I never rode a "crotch rocket" because I am not a racer. That is what I call a race bike. They were built for racing on the track and not for riding on the road.

At my local bike night (which I just came back from not 30 minutes ago) I noticed all the race bikes (read that as crotch rockets) huddel in the corner of the lot and seperate themselves from all the other bikes (crusers of all brands including Harley's, Honda's, Thriump's, etc) and never mingle with the rest of us. The stay to their own and act like the rest of us are not part of their goup. Maybe that is just the way it is in my town, but it is enough to put you off of that clic of riders because I ride with all brand and types.

You seem to have a chip on your shoulder about anyone who voices their opinion of people who ride crotch rockets. if that is the case I could care less. Don't defend those who others find to be pricks. I find those in my area who ride crotch rockets to be seperate from the other "bikers" because they seem to sepreate themseves to their own kind. Too bad if it bothers you because I am beyond giving a crap.

If they want to diss me then so be it. I could care less, but don't give me crap unless you live in my area and see something other than what I am experencing.

Opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one and most of them stink.

By the way, I wave at everyone who rides, even scooters.

How about you?

Down here in Texas if you drive a cage in rural areas you will find most folks will wave. They know they do not know you but are just trying to be friendly.

On the bike I try to make the first move and wave to all. Most everyone waves back but if they don't so be it. The ones who don't seem to be crotch rockets going so fast they most likely don't want to take their hand off the grip which I totally understand.

When I am gassing up and I see a crotch rocket I generally will walk over and ask about their bike. I usually tell them that at my age it is too much bike for me and that is the truth. If I ever got on the thing, I don't know if I could figure out how to get off much less be able to stand up straight again.

Ride what you want and respect the rights of others to do it their way.

When I as comuting on my bike to work, I noticed that no one waved during the week, only on weekends!

maybe it is a way of letting people know you didnt work that day? If they work, they must be tooo tired to lift the arm????

It was really consistant for about 2 years... no weekday waving.

Joyride,
try again tomorrow, then again next week during the week and see if that is the trend.....
