Default question bout 1200 kit

is there a 883-1200 conversion kit where the cylendar heads stay the same, where they can just swop out the pistons to get you to a 1200???? my 883 was supposed to have a kit like this and i'm doubting it. i have about 63hp. just wondering

Sure, check this out.
Product Search Engine For All Products - Wiseco Piston Inc.
Using your stock heads, you need to run the dished or reverse domed pistons or your compression will be too high, that or get the 1200 heads.
The 883 heads have smaller valves but some like this because they get great low rpm torque.
A lot of guys run the Buell heads.
Then you need to bore out your cylinders, make sure whoever does this uses the correct Torque Plates, most local machine shops will NOT have these.
Or just buy the 1200’s.

don't know if he bored anything, but he did use weisco pisptons, supposedidly i'm at 10.5-1 compression. i had it on a dyno and i'm at 63.5hp (i think somewhere around there) is it possible for an 883 to have that much. most of the articles i've read say no. i've had alot of trouble with this shop. after the kit blew 4head gaskets, and after 1.5years of trying to get it tuned right i had to take it to a shop with a Dyno. i have a dyna ign, arlenness big sucker air filter and insomniac pipes(which i found out later are illegal) straight 1.75 drag pipes. look great.

Tate2d.

My 04 883 was upgrated to a 1200.New Screaming Eagle Pistons, Cams, Ign Mod/rev limiter. Jugs. The Heads are stock 883 heads. No money for headwork yet.

I have about 25,000 miles on this setup. She has been running strong. The only problems I had were leaks from my rocker boxes. I put on chrome and they were bad. I since added Rocker boxes from an 07. Different design and gaskets. No issues. I do however have a leak between the rear jug and head. But heck that is after 25,000 miles. Will fix that in the next few weeks when I have time.

What setup are you running??

Well I am not a Sportster expert, had a 883 years ago.
The 1200 is 74 cubic inches, one horsepower per cubic inch is considered pretty good, not great but a good standard to shoot for and still be fairly reliable.
So I think 63 with stock heads, stock cam would be about right.
Maybe someone who owns one that has had it dynoed will jump in.
There is a way to check the size using oil to fill the chambers, check tdc and bdc and the oil displaced. But I am not qualified to tell you how to do it.

thanks for the info. wasn't sure about the HP. read an article in iron mag about a tc88 softtail and it had 67HP so i thought i was doing great considering the weight difference.

I had my conversion done on my '95 883 in 1997 and my last dyno reading was 70 HP, 74 TQ. Here's the setup at the time: HD 1200 pistons, stock cylinders bored, stock 883 heads, Andrews N2 cams, Dyna Single Fire Ignition/coil, S&S E Carb with Yost powertube, Hyper charger air cleaner, drag pipes with torque cones. At that time I was getting between 55 - 65 mpg. The bike is still the same basic setup today and still runs strong. I was thinking about doing Buell heads or the NRHS 1250 next but the bike has given me plenty of go thus far.

haven't done the cams or carb yet, this winter hopefully. and how much damage can be done to the engine if your running to lean. almost to the point where your overheating??

Running too lean can "DESTROY" your engine.
Example:
Too lean leads to preignition/detonation...pistons broken or melted...rings shattered...pieces getting between valve & seat...pieces getting into engine case...etc. Hell...just the shattered insulter of a spark plug (it happens) could lead to some if not all of the above

BTW...lose the "pipedreamz" in favor of a set any "real" performance pipes/mufflers and watch your numbers increase...along with ease in tuning etc.
