Question Evo Base Gaskets/ Oil Sleeves

Hey all,

Considering James Base Gaskets (metal) and Hayden oil return sleeves for the fix on the leaky base gaskets. Anyone have any experience with these items??

Thanks. Botz

As far as James gaskets, I like the base gaskets and they seal well. The head gaskets probably would have sealed fine if my studs hadn't been stretched and backed out just enuff to let it feel right when I torqued them, but not tight enuff to seal all the time.

I have no advice on the oil sleeves. Enjoy!

Screamin Eagle heads?

Thumbs up "The Fix"

I put the Hayden "Fix" on my Evo when I redid the top end in 2004. I have had no problems with weeps, let alone leaks in the base gasket. I'd recommend them to anyone doing a top end rebuild. BTW, I used the Screamin' Eagle base gasket. No problems there, either. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys,

Probably start the tear down this weekend. Hey 94...second time now Im hearing about the cylinder studs stretching just enough to cause a leak. I think I'll make sure they are fully seated and then measure them. If any are off even slightly maybe I'll throw the S Eagle ones in. Trigger, thanks for the positive on the oil sleeves. Botz

I would double check as I am not sure you can use the James metal coated base gaskets with the Hayden sleeves. Hayden makes their own gasket that works in conjunction with the sleeve. I believe there is a clearance issue but I am not 100% certain. Wouldn't want you to go through all the trouble just to end up with a worse leak. Double check!
